Running Up That Hill

Morning,

Had a great weekend. On Saturday night we went to Yum Yum at The Picturedrome in Northampton. For those not familiar with The Picturedrome, it's a fantastic venue that was originally opened in 1912 as Northampton's first purpose-built cinema. It's been really well preserved and it's a fantastic art deco building. Yum Yum itself is always a great night, and brilliant for fashion spotting. Lots of retro and mod inspired looks (I'm personally always fascinated by some of the womens' hairstyles and how they stay like that!). It's always great for some inspiration.

Talking of inspiration, I thought we'd show off a bit of our artistic side for Pick Of The Day today. This is The House On The Hill by Pippa Alice, £20.00. It's a signed original piece of artwork, hand drawn on handmade recycled cotton rag paper. Due to it's small size, it makes a great little gift. All Pippa Alice pieces have now been reduced to £20.00, which is a great deal for this distinctive little gems. This one is perfect for the architect or town planner in your life. :)

Hope your week is starting well!

Purple People Eater

Morning,

It's Saturday! Which means several things: for our in-store shoppers, it's your last day to get your Stargazer hair dyes for only £4.00. Also, for those in the Wellingborough area, make sure you get your copy of the Northants Evening Telegraph today and look out for our advert. Just bring it in with you to get 10% off all Yumi clothing.

Today's Pick Of The Day is this gorgeous piece of hand drawn, signed, original artwork by Pippa Alice. This is The Purple House, and all Pippa Alice pieces have now been reduced to only £20 each. It is on handmade recycled cotton rag paper, and measures approximately 11x15.5cm so it's a small and perfectly formed piece for decorating any space.

Have a great weekend!

Sundae Girl

Morning,

I usually try to think of a music-related pun for the blog title that relates to the content in some way. However, today's was just perfect as it was!

Today we're focusing on our artists. Whilst we are predominantly a boutique selling clothes, accessories and cosmetics, we like to support the arts and anyone who has been in our shop can see all the beautiful pieces adorning our walls. Some of these are available on the online shop, some are not as yet. The pieces we have available include small original pieces by Pippa Alice, canvases and smaller originals by Louise Berrill, originals and prints by Richard Stones, canvases, postcards and framed originals by Rebecca Sturdgess, canvases by Anita Hughes, framed prints by Daniel Cheney, photographic canvas prints and postcards by Clive Wagner, not to mentioned beautifully painted glassware from Dorne Boddington's Smashing Glass. With original canvases starting at £12 and going up to £450, there is something for every taste and budget. So don't forget, not only can we help you look like your amazing and unique self, we can help your home reflect that too.

Our Pick Of The Day is one of these gorgeous works of art. Let me introduce you to Sundae Girl by Pippa Alice. Pippa is our only artist currently who isn't based locally. Her pieces have a fantastic whimsical style that is very distinctive. They're all signed originals, created on handmade recycled cotton rag paper. Sundae Girl is approx 11cm x 15.5cm so she's small enough to fit anywhere! Great as a thoughtful gift for a loved one, or just a fantastic treat for yourself and your space.

View Sundae Girl by Pippa Alice on our online shop.

Hope you've all got a great weekend lined up. We're off to Retro-Beat at The Horseshoe down the road to check out The Francis Jetty and Transmission. We'll tell you all about it when we're back to work on Tuesday! In the meantime, have fun!

Village People

Morning,

From this afternoon, gift certificates will be available from the Unorthodox shop on Silver Street, Wellingborough. These can currently only be used in the shop, and not on the website, but if you're in the area, they're perfect for Christmas, birthdays, or any other occasion when you want to get a gift. It avoids all sorts of dramas over what the recipients taste/dress size/preferences are!

Pick Of The Day is this Pippa Alice piece, The Village. It's a signed, original piece of artwork on handmade recycled cotton rag paper. It measures 11cm x 15.5cm approx, so it's little enough to brighten up even the smallest space (also, from a gift perspective, it's much easier to post!). We have a variety of Pippa Alice pieces in the shop and on the online shop, and they're all very very beautiful. This is a perfect chance for you or someone you know to own an original and show it off to your friends!

Have a good weekend! See you Tuesday.

Indie-pendence

Morning,

LOVED the street party on Saturday! Ok, so I mainly got to experience it from the shop doorway, but it was great seeing so many people about! Thanks to everyone who popped in, and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves!

Remember, the sale is still on in store and online, so have a look! Also, will be adding our selection of Rubertine Art t-shirts to the site later today, so keep your eyes open for those as well.

Pick Of The Day is this Pippa Alice hand drawn, signed, original artwork. This one is called The Smiths T-Shirt Girl, and it's on handmade recycled cotton rag paper. Measuring approx 11cm x 15.5cm, this little picture is a great chance to own a gorgeous piece of original art from an fantastic artist! We also have a selection of other Pippa Alice artwork available, so have a look in store (it's in the top of our antique counter) or on the website.

Art For Art's Sake

Morning,

I just got my first catalogue that referenced Christmas displays. I will be honest with you now, I have given no thought to Christmas displays. Because it's June! Oh dear, maybe I should start planning. Anyone want to dress up as an elf? :)

Pick of the day today is another fantastic piece of Pippa Alice artwork. It's called The Houses On The Hill. This is a signed original, hand drawn and coloured, A6 in size, on handmade recycled cotton rag paper. We have several of her pieces in stock, so come have a look. It's a great chance to own a little piece of original art for you to frame and put up wherever you like (or they'd make a great gift). If you come in store, they are displayed in our counter. As always, if you don't see what you want, just ask!

Right, better start thinking about Christmas then. :P

Unorthodox goes arty

Morning (just!)

Despite what I said yesterday, I did end up going to the refurbished Horseshoe Inn's reopening. It looks fantastic! Wellingborough is definitely on the up.

This morning the Louise Berrill canvases we have went up. They are from her Cityscapes collection, and they are amazing. They have already attracted a lot of attention, too! Louise is a local artist and her work can be see on her website. The ones we have in store are for sale, so if you fancy treated yourself and investing in a great young artist, these are for you. For those with a little less cash to splash, we also have the A6 size hand drawn Pippa Alice artwork. Each of these are signed originals and are on handmade recycled rag paper (and are on display in our counter if you want a look).

So naturally, the pick of the day had to be some of the new artwork. This piece is called 'Heart Of The City', dates from 2008, and is acrylic and mixed media on canvas. The way the light hits the gold leaf on the picture is incredible, and the textures are really impressive. I love it.

Anyway, if you're in Wellingborough this afternoon, SteveO is out flyering for us again, so keep an eye out for him!

Ruby Tuesday

Morning. Bit late on the blog posting today as it is 'change the mannequins' day. It is also Pippa's (of Pippa Alice whose artwork we have in stock) birthday so happy birthday Pippa! Also got my brother lurking about today (if you pass by, he's the one who looks like a cross between Chewbacca and Tim The Bear from The Cleveland Show).

Pick of the day is this Max C little black dress. I don't think the photo really does it justice, but it gives you an idea (can't wait for our proper photos with the models to be done!). It's got bow detail, a ruched hem at the bottom, and has a lovely silky feel to it. It's also hand crafted (and comes with Max C's tags to prove that!). It's on one of the girl mannequins in the window if you want to take a closer look!

The other mannequins are wearing a Death Kitty pink skull tutu-style skirt and a Spiral Direct diamante skull bandeau, and a pair of Spiral Direct shorts with a Worn Free 'as worn by' Joey Ramone t-shirt.

Just had a sneak peak at the 'high summer' Max C collection and there's some gorgeous pieces. Katie Price was recently spotted wearing one of the Max C dresses we have in stock but I'm unsure if this is a particularly good promotional point so shhh! I'm keeping it quiet!

Enjoy your day.

Ready for the weekend

Hello all!

Well, as promised, we now have the Pippa Alice artwork in the shop. All are signed original pieces on A6 handmade recycled cotton rag paper. Very very cute. We have 9 different pieces. So naturally, the pick of the day had to be one of these. This one is called Red Head Goth Girl.

Anyway, I better go and display them now!

Enjoy!

Rainbow Bright

It's Tuesday, which means two things: 1, Unorthodox has been open for a week today, and 2, today is the day I change the clothes in the window. Girl Mannequin #1 (think I should name them, any ideas?) had an impromptu change on Saturday when a customer bought the dress she was wearing, so she is now in a great Death Kitty tartan skirt and a Death Kitty hoody. The other two, Girl Mannequin #2 and Boy Mannequin #1, were changed this morning. Boy Mannequin #1 is now modelling one of the Worn Free 'as worn by Keith Moon' Jesus Saves t-shirt (also available in white if blue isn't your thing) and a pair of Spiral Direct shorts, with Girl Mannequin #2 in a lovely grey Max C dress, with a Maddie shopper. Have a look if you're wandering by.

Anyway, on to the shameless plugging of the pick of the day. I was going to pick a colour from the range of Stargazer hair dyes, but I just couldn't decide, so it's all of them! They're semi-permanent, and the gloves are already in the box, which isn't always standard for the companies making the more mad shades! We have them in *deep breath* Eggplant, Baby Pink, Rich Wine, African Green, Coral Blue, Violet, Purple, Rouge, Magenta, Copper, Blue Black, White, Yellow, Tropical Green, Pitch Black, Dawn, Golden Flame, Shocking Pink, Coral Gold, Royal Blue, Red Hot, Silverlook, Foxy Red, Auburn, Ultra Blue and Plume. Whether you want to send your whole head of hair a new colour, or just add a few streaks, these colours are fantastic.

Had a sneak peek of some of Pippa Alice's artwork that is coming into the shop shortly to help brighten the place up. Even better, it's going to be available to you guys (for a small fee, starving artists and all that) so if you love it, you can stare at it forever. Some very very gorgeous pictures. We're still looking for artists and bands who want to display/sell their work/merch, so get in touch if you're interested.

Right, better go do some work now!
