Bank Holiday Blues

Morning,

So did everyone have a good bank holiday? I may have overindulged a little so suffering today! Still, I'm here for all of your fashion needs so pop in, or if you see anything you like online, give us a call and we'll send it out to you. Website is almost ready so that will make it even easier for those of you too far away from the shop.

Went to the bank holiday mini fest down the road at The Horseshoe Inn yesterday and caught some great local bands, Those Without Sin, The Tea Rooms, The Transmission, Ali Blake, and The Liabilities. What's more, The Liabilities frontman (and Unorthodox model) Steve was wearing one of our Worn Free John Lennon New York City t-shirts and looked great. We also got a shout out from sound man/DJ Mutley, so all in all, a good night! For those who are in the area, and fancy checking out some good music, Retrobeat is at the Horseshoe on Saturday 18th September, with Leeds band We Sell Seashells, and DJs including yours truly.

Pick Of The Day is this RedRock Fashion brown bleach out tunic vest. RedRock have their first Brick Lane show coming up soon, so get in there now and own something by this up and coming label. This top is only £22, and is really flattering. The bleached out effect makes it really stand out (bleaching, it's like tie-dying but with balls!). They come in Small, Medium and Large, and we only have a limited number in stock at the moment so grab them while you can!

Hope you've not got the bank holiday blues about going back to work, but if you do, retail therapy might be in order!

Vamping It Up

Morning,

We're thinking of running a special offer next week. Head over to our Facebook page to suggest what you'd like to see on offer.

As there is a touch of sunshine in the vicinity of the shop today, I thought this little vest top should be pick of the day. It's by Death Kitty, and it's a Vampette tie-up halterneck. The back laces up corset-style with neon green strings, so it's a one-size-fits-most piece. I love the retro B-movie style graphics on the front! A vest with bite, but at £12.50 it's not got a sting! Hmm... too much coffee on a Saturday morning can lead to some very odd metaphores!

Have a good weekend, and if you're stuck for anything to wear, just pop in or give us a call!

The Runaways

Morning,

The Runaways is the new movie about the 1970s girl band of the same name, that included Joan Jett. It's out in the UK on September 10th, and stars Kristen Stewart (she of the Twilight films) and Dakota Fanning.

As we're quite looking forward to this flick, I thought pick of the day should be one of our Joan Jett t-shirts by Worn Free. Modelled here by Steve, we currently have this in stock in sizes starting at Extra Small, so it's perfect for girls too. It's a fully licensed replica of the Knockout t-shirt worn by Joan Jett in New York in 1981, and comes with the famous Worn Free swingtag/sticker showing Ms Jett in the original. All the Worn Free tees are fantastic quality, and the ones I've had have washed really well and lasted me years, so they're well worth the bit of extra cash. All our Worn Free t-shirts are priced at £32.

All ready for the weekend?

Stealing Style

Morning

Yay, body jewellery display being sorted out this morning! As soon as I've told you about this...

In this week's Heat magazine, they show you how to steal the style of The Vampire Diaries' Nina Dobrev. There's a photo of her in a dress with a lace top and vertically ruffled skirt. A lot like this Iska one! Iska is made by Uttam whose own label is available in Dorothy Perkins, and who also make Yumi clothing and accessories, so you know it's good quality. This dress can be worn with delicate accessories and some pretty heels, or grunge it up a bit and add a worn denim jacket and some Doc Martens. It's £35, and definitely one to make your friends jealous.

Ugh, raining again! I'm taking this August back and demanding a refund!

All At Sea

Morning,

Still waiting for the body jewellery stand... somewhat less patiently now! Really looking forward to getting it all on display for you!

Still got some work to do on the website so it's another quicky today.

Pick of the Day is one of our Deanna bags. All of the bags in the Deanna range are handmade locally, so each is different. This one is one of her reversable bags. On one side, there is a red, nautical-themed print, and it's plain black on the other. So whether you want to go all out on the nautical trend, or just keep it subtle with that as the lining, this bag is definitely very cute. It's £14.

Enjoy your day.

Is that sunshine I see?

Morning,

Still waiting for the stand to arrive for our body jewellery, so in the meantime, just ask if you want to browse the selection!

Some lovely new photos our resident photographer Brian Chapman took are now up on our Facebook page, featuring our gorgeous models Carly (below) and Rosie.

As there is the slightest bit of sunshine in Wellingborough today, I thought I'd have something a little summery for the Pick Of The Day. This Max C Skull-Print Maxi Dress in Cream is absolutely gorgeous. The fabric is beautiful, the grey skull print is kooky and subtle, and the bandeau top and flowing skirt means it can fit bigger than the marked size, usually. Priced at £45, it's a standout piece that will be great year after year.

Good luck to anyone getting their exam results today!

Pause For Thought

Morning,

They're digging a trench along the road outside this morning, but if you can negotiate your way through the barriers, we will try to make it worth your while!

The body jewellery arrived yesterday. Among other things, we have various stretching spirals, nails and tapers, as well as tongue bars, barbells, navel bars, nose studs, rings, tunnels, plugs, balls... well, come have a look for yourself! Many items are a lot cheaper than you can find them elsewhere! We have a variety of brands including Blackline, and all have been recommended to us by piercers so we are confident they are good quality products. Just have to work out how to display them all now! So if they're not in the counter when you pop in, just ask, and we'll be happy to show you what we have.

These paintings went up on the wall this morning. They are by local artist Anita Hughes, and are based on brain function and neural pathways. The bottom one is called Brain Neuron Painting 1, and is acrylic on canvas. Measuring approx 41cm x 41cm, it is priced at £50. The top canvases are called Brain Neuron Paintings 2. They show how repeating positive thoughts can create permanent connections in the brain (sort of a visual representation of cognative behavioural therapy, for the psychologists out there!) They are mixed media on canvas, and measure approx 30cm x 30cm each. They come as a pair and are priced at £40 (which is a bit of a bargain for two canvases!). All are signed originals.

Hope you're all enjoying your weekend.

These Boots Are Made For Walking

Morning,

I've heard a rumour that the body jewellery is arriving today, so hopefully will have it out on display by tomorrow!

Pick Of The Day today are these Dr Marten Iconic 8417 Union Jack Boots. They are 8 eyelet Dr Martens boots, with a smooth finish, and a Union Jack motif at the toe. They have a great retro look to them. Dr Martens have been featuring in loads of fashion shoots for both men and women lately, so it's a great time to invest in a pair. These ones are £85, and come in sizes 3-15. We don't keep these in stock in the shop, due to the variety of styles and sizes available, but we get them in to order, usually within a few days (although it may occasionally take a little longer, depending on their stock/season). To place an order, either pop into the shop and view the full catalogue, call us on 01933 227072, or e-mail kat@unorthodoxshop.co.uk

Almost the weekend!

By The Sea

Morning,

Working flat out on the online shop at the moment so this is a brief one.

Pick Of The Day is a unisex piece by JP Jewellery. This beaded bracelet has shell and fish charms, and has a bit more of a natural, earthy feel than a lot of the JP pieces. As with all JP Jewellery items, it's handmade and a one-off. Only £5 and you'll never see it anywhere else.

Glossing Over

Morning,

Well, our new range of body jewellery is on its way to us so hopefully we'll have that in for you by the weekend. Belly bars, stretching gear, plugs, tunnels, tongue bars, and all sorts. Hope you like it! Also had a peek at the Autumn/Winter collections for Max C and Miss Fortune (a brilliant retro label I'm thinking of stocking) but yet to make any decisions. Looking forward to the London Edge trade show in a few weeks to see what lovely bits we can find for you! Also got some new artwork in by Anita Hughes which will be going on the walls this week. It's all based on brain function and neural pathways and is pretty interesting stuff!

Pick Of The Day are these Barry M Glossy Tubes. They ultra glossy, flavoured lipglosses with a non-sticky formula. We have them in stock in: No1 Pink Sparkle, No4 Matt Pink (voted 'Most Wearable' by Grazia magazine), No6 Iridescent Violet Glitter and No11 Passion Pink. At £3.95 each, they seem to last for ages as a little goes a long way! Personally, I really rate them so I hope you enjoy them too!

Almost halfway through the working week (well, for most!).

Very Vintage

Morning,

Did another photoshoot at the shop on Saturday, with two more lovely models, Carly from the Ra Ra Ryans and fashionista Rosie. Our fantastic photographer Brian is back in this evening so we can get the last bits photographed for the website.

If you're feeling stressed or just love all things retro/vintage, check out this Temporary:Secretary Keep Calm And Carry On necklace in Vintage Green. The pendant is 40mm x 30mm and it's on an 18 inch goldware chain. We also have it in stock in other colours, as well as in pink on a silverware chain. They are £22 each. Gorgeous vintage style, distinctive, and very TempSec.

Have a good Tuesday!

Hama Hama Hama

Morning,

This is from yesterday's Evening Telegraph, and is about the Wellingborough Cashback Card scheme that launches today. Basically, you can get a card from any of the shops taking part. Each time you spend a certain amount in each shop (each shop varies), you get a sticker on the card. Once the card is filled, simply spend that minimum amount again to claim £5 off. The great thing is, you can mix and match which shops you use! Full details are on the website at http://www.showthecard.co.uk

The shops taking part include:

Unorthodox
O2 Wellingborough
Button Boutique
Wellingborough Health Foods
Maxine Of Morris Smith Jewellers
Henri Mikel
Jenny's
Halsey & Parker Opticians
Most Wanted Homes
Sista
Rowlatt & Sons
AO Copy & Print
Colemans

In the case of Unorthodox, to claim your stamp you have to spend £25 (excluding CDs, make-up and cosmetics, accessories and glassware). Nothing to lose and £5 to gain!

Our pick of the day is another few pieces from RedRock Fashion. These hama necklaces are on 22inch chains so are worn pendant-style, and we have a PacMan ghost, a keyboard, sunglasses, and a GameBoy. They're £7 each which is a bargain! Perfect 80s retro, and very kitsch.

Enjoy your weekend!

Sailor Moon

Morning,

We got on the radio yesterday! You can hear the show on BBC Radio Northampton using iPlayer here. Skip ahead to 1 hour 46 minutes and hear all about the new Wellingborough Cashback Card that launches tomorrow, and that you can use in the Unorthodox shop. We're also in today's Evening Telegraph so I'll try to get a scan of that up here soon, with more info on the scheme.

Yesterday we got our first selection of RedRock Fashion pieces in. We have t-shirts, vests and necklaces from the label, all really individual, bright, and exciting. We're getting them photographed properly tomorrow, but in the meantime, this quick snap gives you the general idea. This one is the Blue Double Bow T-Shirt. It's navy blue with white bows, and is perfect for the nautical look. However, to me, it's definitely reminiscent of Japanese schoolgirls and the Sailor Moon Manga. Love it.

Have a good Friday The 13th! Be lucky!

Morning,

Exciting news for you tomorrow, but can't say much until after the press launch this afternoon! Intrigued? I'll keep you posted, or keep an eye open in the Northamptonshire press.

Today's pick of the day is one of the new handmade pieces by Deanna. This is a beige clutch bag with dark brown button decoration. It measures 22cm x 12cm and is only £10. Simple and elegant. She has also made us some bags, purses, and very cute artist/make-up rolls for keep all your brushes, pens, pencils etc in.

Edging closer to the weekend!

Star Style

Morning,

Still in the grip of roadworks but we are most definitely open! It's worth negotiating the barriers and ramps, I promise! :)

This week's Heat magazine features a lovely grey layered dress by Mint Velvet. The downside? It's £95. But fret not, if you want celeb style but on a budget, we have this oh so very similar Iska dress for a mere £35! Very flattering and fully lined, it's a classic piece that can be worn in so many different ways. Plus, it goes perfectly with our grey peacock clasp Max C belt! We only have a few of these left so get in quick!

Retro Chic

Morning,

Despite the fact it looks like a bomb went off outside where they have dug up the pavement, we are open! You just have to go over a little makeshift ramp to get in the door. We're sorry for the inconvenience and hopefully it'll all be over soon and we'll have a lovely new pavement.

Pick of the Day today is our Maddie 60s Shopper. We have a few of these in stock, and as they are handmade, each one is different. We have them in a selection of patterns and colours but all are deliciously retro. All Maddie accessories are made locally so you're supporting local crafts as well! These shoppers are big enough for all your essentials and are only £15 each.

Hope you're all having a good week!

Morning,

Today is the last day to take advantage of our special offer. If you buy any Max C, Iska, Special Evening, Worn Free or WAM Apparel clothing, you can get £5 off if you use the code words 'Roadworks Treat'.

Pick of the Day today is another item included in the offer. This Max C Lace Bow vest top is cream with black lace trim and a little pearl in the centre of the bow. Really simple, yet very pretty. We have it in stock in sizes 8 to 14, and it's normally £25, but if you buy/order it before the end of today and use the code words then it's only £20.

Enjoy your weekend, and remember, we're not going to be open this Monday but will be back with you as normal on Tuesday.

Something For The Weekend?

Morning,

Because of the roadworks digging up the pavement outside, and because sometimes I need some time to do the washing, we will be shut this Monday 9th August. I hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone.

For our Pick of the Day today, we're revisiting an old favourite. This Max C Jersey Rosette Bubble Dress in grey is beautifully soft. It has an applique rosette with contrasting black trim, and a bubble hem skirt. What makes it even more appealing is that it is currently for sale from Max C's website at £42, and we have it in for only £30. What's more, if you buy it before the close of business on Saturday and tell us the code 'Roadworks Treat' then you'll get a further £5 off making it £25! That's a saving of £17 on the RRP! Bargain!

Men At Work

Morning,

The roadworks on Sheep/Silver Street in Wellingborough are now up by the shop. We know this doesn't make for the most attractive or peaceful shopping environment, so to thank our customers for their loyalty and patience, we're running a special offer until the close of business on Saturday (7th August). Until then, if you come in and give us the codewords 'Roadworks Treat' (and try not to feel too daft!) we'll give you £5 off any item of clothing by Max C, Iska, Special Evening, Worn Free or WAM Apparel.

In light of this offer, I thought I'd take another look at a previous Pick of the Day that is included in it. This Worn Free t-shirt is a replica of one worn by Keith Moon. We also have it available in white. Normally it's £32, but if you use the £5 discount in the offer, it will come to only £27! Never been a better time to check out the range of Worn Free tees we have in stock (once you've tried them, you'll be hooked!).

Oh dear, the drilling has started again!

Karmically Close

Morning,

As the roadworks creep ever closer to the Unorthodox front door, the volume of the music is having to creep up too. Who will win the noise competition? Erm, probably them, because eventually I will seriously damage my hearing!

In the last batch of JP Jewellery goodies we received were a couple of very cool unisex pieces. This necklace is one of them. It's a little wooden Buddha on a chunky necklace. Good for improving your outfit, and adding to your karma! It's priced at £8.00. We also have a unisex wooden bracelet in too, so have a look!

Morning,

Weekends definitely go too quickly! Still, hope everyone is having a good Monday morning! Just a quick post this morning as got loads of start-of-the-month paperwork to get through!

Pick Of The Day is one of our Stargazer False Eyelashes. This metallic silver set is style No.12. We have a variety of styles and colours in stock, but I thought these were fantastic for standing out! They come with the glue, can be reused providing you take care of them, and are available at £5 per pair. Yes, we do have the more natural looking ones, but aren't these just a little bit more fun? :)
