Cross My Heart

Morning,

Good news: The online shop seems to be back to normal! Apologies for any inconvenience.

We're going to be opening a little later tomorrow (Thursday) but should be all up and running by 10am.

Had a visit from the lovely people who make our Special Evening and Monsalina Chic dresses yesterday. Some of their upcoming designs are absolutely fantastic! We have a few new pieces from them to add to our collection of Special Evening prom dresses and a few new bits of Monsalina Chic, which we hope to have out on the racks by the end of today. Come have a look and see what you think! We'll try to get them online as soon as possible, as well.

Pick Of The Day today is a great accessory to match with your Summer wardrobe, or for adding to a prom dress. This JP Jewellery Cross & Flowers Charm Bracelet, £20.00, is handmade and as with all JP Jewellery pieces, it's a one-off, meaning you're guaranteed something unique and special. This one is decorated with flower, cross and leaf charms, as well as lots of other pretty sparkly bits.

How To Train Your Dragonfly

Morning,

Sun is shining, we've got the door open, the iPod is on shuffle as usual but it seems to be choosing to reflect the sunny Friday vibe, all is good in the world! So get shopping!

Sorry to report but we have currently sold out of the Barry M Instant Nail Effects, however panic not, we will try to get some more in as soon as possible, including the gorgeous new colours they've just released!

Think it's time to dye my hair again. Got some of the Stargazer dye in Violet left so going to use that up, but any suggestions what colour I should go for next? On the same thread of personal favourites from the shop, I'm wearing my Iska Layers Dress today. So flattering and yet so comfortable, it's one of my favourites.

Did you see the love of all things bird-print in this week's Heat magazine? If so, can't believe they overlooked the gorgeous Yumi Kenna Swallow Maxi Dress. It's so pretty! However, if you're more on the side of the fruit prints, check out our handmade, one-off Maddie Ladies Who Lunch Bag in Tropical Fruit.

Pick Of The Day today is perfect for getting you in the Summer mood and in touch with nature. This handmade, one-off JP Jewellery Dragonfly Necklace, £20.00, features a pink and white diamante dragonfly, with extra chains decorated with leaves and hearts. Delicate but eye-catching. Made locally, we are the exclusive stockists of JP Jewellery, and JP herself has said there will never be another one of these, so it's unique as well as beautiful.

Have a fantastic Friday, and if you don't, just remember, it's almost the weekend!

With Every Heartbeat

Morning,

Lots of exciting new things in this weekend. First off, we have some gorgeous new Max C 'Damien' handbags. Available in black, grey or khaki, this skull-studded bags are absolutely gorgeous (I've already nabbed one and it is much admired so far!). The black one has gold coloured studs, the other colours have silver coloured. Big enough to fit in all your essentials, but not too bulky, these are the usual stunning design and quality you can expect from Max C, whose bags have been getting tons of press attention. The clutch version of this one was featured in Heat magazine, so be one of the first to get the handbag. We'll get them up on the online shop as soon as possible, but in the meantime they are available in store now.

The next new thing is our Barry M gift boxes. The brainchild of our executive minion Isabel, you can pick the Barry M make-up you'd like in it (minimum 3 pieces) or we can help you choose, and we'll turn it into a gorgeous little gift box with tissue paper and a bow for no extra charge. Perfect for presents, and can be tailored to suit anyone. These are available in store, or order online by adding the Barry M items you want to your basket and writing 'giftbox' in the comments section at check out.

Pick Of The Day today is this JP Jewellery Double Heart Necklace. Made by hand by Jess, one of our local artisans (and a bit nuts, truth be told, which is how we like our suppliers), there is only one of these (all JP Jewellery pieces are one-offs). Romantic and simple, this is a great way of wearing your heart on your sleeve (er, neck).

Have a great weekend! We'll be out flyering at the Wellingborough Christmas Light Switch-On tonight (we might skip the Steve Brookstein bit).

Lady Of The Flowers

Morning,

Sometimes these song-title inspired blog titles are pretty hard to come up with!

How are we all this Saturday? We're down to our last stock on quite a few pieces now so if you fancy the Temporary:Secretary Hello Kitty ring or the Iska Slinky Butterfly Dress, get in quick! Also, if everyone is pestering you to tell them what you want for Xmas, don't forget we can hold a wishlist for you, or we have the gift vouchers (gift vouchers are in store only).

Thank you to everyone who nominated us for Inspiring Independents. It's not too late so if you haven't already, send an e-mail to inspiringindies@drapersonline.com telling them you love us and why.

Also, Kat (that would be your blogger here) is going to be in the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph Spree section on Monday revealing the inside of her wardrobe. Please don't be too harsh in your judgements!

Pick Of The Day is this handmade, one-off, unique charm bracelet from JP Jewellery. Pretty and delicate, it has flower, cross, rose and leaf charms, and is perfect for glamming up bare arms (are you mad? It's freezing!) or adding a bit of sparkle to a simple outfit. Plus, you'll never see it on anyone else as it's the only one in the world.

Here Be Dragonflies

Morning,

We did a photoshoot last night for the new Death Kitty pieces and it went really well! Big thank you to our model Tahnee and our resident photographer Brian.

Should have our new Special Evening dresses out on display later today. There are some gorgeous ones for any special occasion. Will try to get them photographed and up on the website ASAP.

News for those in the Wellingborough area. We have been part of the Wellingborough Cashback Card scheme since it launched and we have now lowered our minimum spend and removed the restrictions on which items qualify. This means you now only have to spend £20 on anything in the shop to receive a sticker on your card. You can use the card at a selection of shops, restaurants and services in the town, and once it's full, you can claim £5 off at any of those places. Full terms and a list of the businesses participating can be found at showthecard.co.uk.

Pick Of The Day is this JP Jewellery Dragonfly Necklace. It's handmade, and it's the only one, so you'd have something completely one-off and unique. JP Jewellery is exclusive to Unorthodox. This one features a diamante pink and white dragonfly, with additional chain strands decorated with leaves and black hearts. A very pretty little statement piece, and once it's gone it's gone, so if it catches your eye click the link below for more information and to order online, or pop in the shop.

Twinkle Twinkle

Morning,

Well, I've got all the props ready for the window display, which a group of us are working on tomorrow, ready for the street party on Saturday. There's also a competition for which you will need a voucher from the Evening Telegraph. Copies will be available on the day, but I think more details are in today's paper. Also, there is the Odd Man Out competition (possibly aimed at a younger audience, but hey, give it a go) where you have to spot the item in various shop windows that belongs in a different shop. Looking forward to it all!

Bit of sad news, for those loving our Worn Free t-shirts, the seasons have changed, and we can't get any more of the designs we have, so it's first come, first served on the designs left. Already sold out completely of the Muhammad Ali 'Float Like A Butterfly' t-shirts in black and the Keith Moon 'Gun' t-shirts in green, but we still have plenty of other designs and sizes left, and what's more they're currently on sale at £30! But be quick, because once they're gone they're gone! The good news is that this means we'll have room for some of their gorgeous new lines, including women's fit!

Pick Of The Day is this gorgeous JP Jewellery Star & Leaves Charm Bracelet. The JP Jewellery range is exclusive to Unorthodox, and is all hand made, and predominantly one-off pieces. This is one such piece. The chain measures about 8 inches, and has star, heart, flower and leaf charms, as well as other pretty sparkly things! We have several other one-off charm bracelets from JP Jewellery in various styles, as well as their other pieces, so have a look at the JP Jewellery section on our website.

View and order the JP Jewellery Star & Leaves Charm Bracelet here.

Getting close to the weekend!

By The Sea

Morning,

Working flat out on the online shop at the moment so this is a brief one.

Pick Of The Day is a unisex piece by JP Jewellery. This beaded bracelet has shell and fish charms, and has a bit more of a natural, earthy feel than a lot of the JP pieces. As with all JP Jewellery items, it's handmade and a one-off. Only £5 and you'll never see it anywhere else.

Karmically Close

Morning,

As the roadworks creep ever closer to the Unorthodox front door, the volume of the music is having to creep up too. Who will win the noise competition? Erm, probably them, because eventually I will seriously damage my hearing!

In the last batch of JP Jewellery goodies we received were a couple of very cool unisex pieces. This necklace is one of them. It's a little wooden Buddha on a chunky necklace. Good for improving your outfit, and adding to your karma! It's priced at £8.00. We also have a unisex wooden bracelet in too, so have a look!

Spring Greens (well, Summer)

Afternoon,

Blogging a bit later today. Been sorting out all the packaging ready for the launch of the online shop. Want to make sure everything gets out to everyone safe and sound!

Pick of the day today is one of our new JP Jewellery pieces. We have quite a few new bits in from Jess, all one-offs, and very pretty. Her new stuff seems to feature green quite heavily so great if you love that colour. This is a new bracelet. It has a double-strand adjustable chain, and a beautiful motif with green sparkley bits! This piece is priced at £10. There is also a matching choker on green velvet ribbon.

Hope you all have a good week.

Reach For The Stars

Morning,

Did you know we sell Dr Martens? We don't hold any in stock at the moment, but we have a catalogue in the shop and can order them in on request. We do ask, however, that you try to be as sure as possible about the size you require. Some of their ranges are available year round, some are seasonal, but if you find a pair you like we will check availability for you.

This JP Jewellery Pink Star Charm bracelet is our pick of the day. As with all JP Jewellery pieces, it's completely a one-off so you will never see anyone else with the same one. This is partly to keep them unique and exciting, and partly because Jess (that'd be JP) is a little ditzy and is unlikely to remember what she did in the first place! But we love her, and we love her designs! The main charm is a pink star, surrounded by leaves, hearts and flowers, so this is about as girly as it comes. And there's nothing wrong with being girly once in a while (or all the time, if you like!). This bracelet is £15, with other pieces in the range starting at £8.50 for a pair of earrings to £20 for some of the bracelets and the necklaces. They're in our antique counter, so next time you pop in, take a look. Perfect as gifts, or just for you.

Right, off to have a tidy round!

Unique

Morning,

Saturday has rolled round again. Anyone any exciting plans? Yours truly is heading down to Bungee at The Horseshoe in Wellingborough tonight to watch brilliant Northampton band Seven Caves. Check out their Myspace for more information, but they are awesome. I'll also be doing a bit of DJing with the Bungee DJs as well hopefully, so looking forward to it!

Pick of the day today is these JP Jewellery earrings. As with all JP Jewellery pieces, they are hand made and one offs, so you know you're getting something completely unique. These ones have predominantly leaf and heart charms. They look really stylish. So if you pop in, they're in the counter with the other JP Jewellery pieces. Well worth a look, and it's a local label, too, available exclusively from Unorthodox.

Have sent my lovely assistant Pete out to get lightbulbs. We're switching to energy saving ones for several reasons: 1) We want to be as 'green' as possible. 2) If we can save money on our bills, it helps us keep our prices down. 3) This is a very old building and the lights keep blowing and energy saving bulbs tend to last longer! It takes 24 bulbs for the lights on the main shop floor alone! See, these are the exciting behind-the-scenes moments you just don't get to see in other shops. :)

Post-Bank Holiday

Morning

Hope everyone enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.

We got some more JP Jewellery pieces in on Saturday. We now have some more earrings and a couple of bracelets. With prices starting at £5, they're a great collection. If you want something a little more kitschy cute, there is the Temporary:Secretary jewellery as well, which has been proving really popular, especially the Cupcake & Donut charm bracelet, where we now only have 2 left, one in silver and one in gold.

Pick of the day is this Death Kitty logo t-shirt. We have it in white/black as pictured, and also in pink/black and red/black. It has detachable sleeves on chains, and great safety pin detail. All in all, it's perfectly punk, and a great way of showing your love of the label. I have to say, Death Kitty are one of my favourites. Great designs, great quality, and the prices are really pretty darn good too! Even if you're style isn't particularly alternative, there are plenty of pieces that can be mixed and matched to suit any look.

Bank Holiday Weekend Starts Here!

Morning!

Everyone all excited for the bank holiday weekend? For those in Wellingborough, I can heartily recommend Bungee at The Horseshoe tomorrow night. Karl Phillips & The Midnight Ramblers are playing, supported by Ra Ra Ryan, and DJs (possibly including me, I haven't actually checked yet!) playing indie, britpop, ska, punk, mod etc. There's also a mini-fest down there on Monday as well with live bands so bit of a good weekend planned this end! But of course, we are open today and tomorrow for you to get your bank holiday wardrobe sorted! It's worth noting that Unorthodox is shut on Bank Holiday Monday. Because every now and then I like to venture out into the world!

Despite having a bracelet as the pick of the day yesterday, I couldn't resist choosing this one for today. It's by JP Jewellery, which is a local Wellingborough designer, and came in yesterday. Each piece is handmade and they're all one-offs. The earrings have already flown out the door, but we have this gorgeous bracelet and a couple of necklaces from JP Jewellery's line still in stock (and if you like them, we will make sure we get more!). Very pretty and summery, it has leaf, flower and cross charms on it, and would look lovely glinting in the summer sunshine!

Bit of a hayfever nightmare today, so if you pop in, please forgive the sniffling. I swear it's nothing contagious! :)

Noisy Roadworks

MORNING!

Sorry, I have to shout. The roadworks on Sheep Street and Silver Street have moved up the road so I can't hear myself think! I do want to stress that all the businesses are open as usual, and could do with local support more than ever while this is going on. I think everyone's avoiding the street but we're all still here and we need you!

New in this morning is JP Jewellery. It's made by Jess in Wellingborough. It's all handmade and each piece is a completely unique one-off. They're very very pretty and can be seen in the accessories display in the counter.

Still on an accesories theme, the pick of the day is this bracelet. Reminiscent of the Links Of London Love Links collection, but without the huge price tag, it has handbag, shoe, and heart charms on it. The photo isn't great because it's so shiny! Very girly, very chic, and very in at the moment.

Right, the drilling seems to have stopped for a few minutes so I'm going to take some paracetamol and, in the words of Depeche Mode, enjoy the silence.
