Turning Japanese

Morning,

Wow, Death Kitty is proving our most popular line this week! Hoping to bring you some of their new pieces very soon! Also hoping to bring you more from RedRock Fashion over the next few days, following their amazing Brick Lane show in London last week.

Pick Of The Day is this set of 6 postcards featuring characters from the Cat Flat comic by R. Sturdgess. Drawn by the local artist, Cat Flat is a Japanese-influenced comic based on the artist's friends (except they're all cats in the comic, I assume they're not in real life!). These postcards are great as a collectors item, or perfect for sending out little notes. At £2.00 a pack, they're perfect as a little treat for yourself or a friend if you pop in the shop, or add them to an online order as an extra little something.

Click here to view and order the Cat Flat Postcard Set on our online shop.

A little bit of sun is poking through the clouds here. Hope you're all nice and warm!

Selling Out

Morning,

Got some lovely new bits in yesterday. We have some gorgeous hand painted and hand finished wooden boxes by D'n'J with PacMan and Space Invader designs among others. We also have some signed, framed, limited edition prints by local artist Daniel Cheney that I hope to have on the walls over the weekend. Finally, we now have a selection of postcards of Wellingborough and the surrounding area by renowned photographer Clive Wagner.

Our sale still rages on. There are some real bargains to be had. If you want any extra information on any product, be it about the sizing, how it fits, washing instructions, just ask! It's what I'm here for! One of the biggest bargains is some of the dresses we have in by Max C. Some are almost £20 lower than the RRP! Well worth having a browse! Most can be worn for winter too, as the styles are pretty classic and not prone to dating quickly, so just add a jacket, or put it away for next year, knowing you have a bargain!

Pick Of The Day today are these men's plain black shorts by Spiral Direct. These are fantastic quality, 100% cotton, and only £20 in our sale. We also have them in a vintage, distressed-look version as well, as well as the printed SD shorts. Stock and sizes are limited so get in there quick!

Click here for more information and to buy these Spiral Direct shorts from our online shop.

Right, off to look at the lovely new lines from Worn Free and decide what we want in next!

Indie-pendence

Morning,

LOVED the street party on Saturday! Ok, so I mainly got to experience it from the shop doorway, but it was great seeing so many people about! Thanks to everyone who popped in, and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves!

Remember, the sale is still on in store and online, so have a look! Also, will be adding our selection of Rubertine Art t-shirts to the site later today, so keep your eyes open for those as well.

Pick Of The Day is this Pippa Alice hand drawn, signed, original artwork. This one is called The Smiths T-Shirt Girl, and it's on handmade recycled cotton rag paper. Measuring approx 11cm x 15.5cm, this little picture is a great chance to own a gorgeous piece of original art from an fantastic artist! We also have a selection of other Pippa Alice artwork available, so have a look in store (it's in the top of our antique counter) or on the website.

For more information on The Smiths T-Shirt Girl by Pippa Alice and to order it from our online shop, click here.

Hope you're all having a good week!

Hubble Bubble

Morning,

So it's the day of the Sheep Street/Silver Street Circus Street Party in Wellingborough. Our Alice In Wonderland themed window display is up (it's not subtle!), which I know is slightly off the circus theme, but a quick poll of our customers revealed none of them really like clowns. Or mimes. Or animals being used in circuses. So we decided we'd avoid that minefield altogether! There's tons going on up and down the street and the sun is shining! Quite looking forward to it all kicking off later.

I've just popped up the road to Irvin's House Of Flavour (a tea and coffee shop up the street) and am now happily munching on chocolate covered coffee beans. Yum!

Pick Of The Day is this Max C Jersey Rosette Bubble Dress, which is in our sale. Made from beautifully soft grey/silver material, with contrasting black detailing around the edge of the rosette, it's an elegant and distinctive dress. It also had Max C's signature bubble hem. The RRP for this dress was £42, but it's now £25 in our sale! An absolute bargain!

Enjoy your Saturday, whatever you're up up

Bag It Up

Afternoon

Sorry for such a late blog post today. Been running around all busy! So this is just a quick one to show you our pick of the day.

Pick Of The Day is this Maddie Satchel Bag. Handmade in Northamptonshire, each one is slightly different, but we have a couple in this style and these colours. With a comfortable shoulder strap, it's a great way of injecting a bit of hippy chic into your outfit, and big enough to fit your essentials in. Priced at £15 each.

Click here for more information and to order the Maddie Satchel Bag from our online shop.

Almost ready for the street party tomorrow!

Twinkle Twinkle

Morning,

Well, I've got all the props ready for the window display, which a group of us are working on tomorrow, ready for the street party on Saturday. There's also a competition for which you will need a voucher from the Evening Telegraph. Copies will be available on the day, but I think more details are in today's paper. Also, there is the Odd Man Out competition (possibly aimed at a younger audience, but hey, give it a go) where you have to spot the item in various shop windows that belongs in a different shop. Looking forward to it all!

Bit of sad news, for those loving our Worn Free t-shirts, the seasons have changed, and we can't get any more of the designs we have, so it's first come, first served on the designs left. Already sold out completely of the Muhammad Ali 'Float Like A Butterfly' t-shirts in black and the Keith Moon 'Gun' t-shirts in green, but we still have plenty of other designs and sizes left, and what's more they're currently on sale at £30! But be quick, because once they're gone they're gone! The good news is that this means we'll have room for some of their gorgeous new lines, including women's fit!

Pick Of The Day is this gorgeous JP Jewellery Star & Leaves Charm Bracelet. The JP Jewellery range is exclusive to Unorthodox, and is all hand made, and predominantly one-off pieces. This is one such piece. The chain measures about 8 inches, and has star, heart, flower and leaf charms, as well as other pretty sparkly things! We have several other one-off charm bracelets from JP Jewellery in various styles, as well as their other pieces, so have a look at the JP Jewellery section on our website.

View and order the JP Jewellery Star & Leaves Charm Bracelet here.

Getting close to the weekend!

Dress it up, girly-style, or wear it with a pair of Dr Martens and a leather jacket, either way it's a great, versatile piece. What's even better is that it's included in our sale, so now it can be yours for only £30! Click below to view it on our online shop, or come in store to try it on.

High Times

Morning,

As promised, here is the article from Saturday's Evening Telegraph. Cheesy, but no harm in a little publicity!

I'll let you in on a little secret... I think I feel a sale coming on. Shh, I'll tell you more tomorrow.

Anyway, for now, it's Pick Of The Day time.

Pick Of The Day today (once again, tying in with This Is England '86 being on tonight) are these Dr Marten Modern Classics 1B60 20-Eye Zip Boot in Black Smooth. Possibly the most perfect and iconic knee-high boots about this Autumn/Winter, and the usual awesome DM quality. These have 20-eyelets to lace up, as well as a zip fastening (because life is too short). At £120, they're really worth every penny, and hopefully will keep you marching happily for many Autumns to come. They are available in sizes 3 to 9, and are also available in Cherry Red Smooth in the Dr Martens section of the site. If you are local to the shop, pop in to discuss ordering a pair, and browse the full catalogue.

Maxi-mise

Morning,

First off, we made an appearance in a news video on the Herald & Post website! Watch it here. I'm also in today's Evening Telegraph, so I'll scan that in for next week.

The street party I mentioned earlier in the week looks set to be great. Pictures of the flyer are above (that's me, holding the Death Kitty Vampette skirt). It's on Saturday 25th September, and will be opened at 11am by the mayor, then it runs all day on Sheep Street and Silver Street in Wellingborough, to celebrate the reopening of the road. It has a circus theme, and there will be rides, stalls, face painting, clowns, live music, giveaways and competitions. Not being fans of clowns, we are doing a special themed window display that is slightly aside from the circus theme, but should fit in well. It runs until 3pm, so if you're in the area, pop in and have a look. Check out the Facebook event.

Having uploaded those photos, Blogger now appears to be angry at me and won't let me add another photo, so I'll just have to give you the link to the Pick Of The Day on our online shop. So POTD is this Max C Cream Chiffon Skull Print Maxi dress. Order it before the end of Sunday 19th, and get £10 off, meaning you get it for the bargain price of £35!

Also, a quick reminder that this is the last day to take advantage of our introductory special offer on our Monsalina Chic dresses, which are currently £28 but will be at their normal price of £35 from next week. These aren't on the site yet but hope to have them up there very soon.

Have a good Saturday!

Friday With A Twist

Morning,

To celebrate the launch of our online shop, www.unorthodoxshop.com, we have some special internet-only offers running until the end of Sunday 19th September. They're while stocks last so get in quick! Get £10 off the Max C Skull Print Maxi dress making it £35, or get £5 off the Worn Free Muhammad Ali 'Float Like A Butterfly' t-shirt in white, making it £27. Both of those prices make them cheaper than buying them directly from the label's websites!

Had an impromptu visit to RedRock Fashion HQ yesterday and had a peek at some of the pieces appearing in their London show next week. All I can divulge is that high waist skirts with crop tees are a key look, as is velvety fabrics, a bit of shimmer and shine, and bleached out patterns (as I've said before, it's like tie-dying but with balls). It's all amazing, and hopefully we'll be able to bring you some of the gorgeous new pieces once they are done wowing the capital. If they've not become far too massive to return our calls by then! :)

Pick Of The Day today is this D'n'J Twisted bag. Handmade in Wellingborough, it's made from panels of different denim-look floral fabrics, and sewn on a twisted seam which gives it a distinctive look and makes it hang really nicely. Well made, each bag is different, and whilst lightweight it is big enough to fit in all your essentials! Only have one in this style in stock, although if you look at the D'n'J section of the site, you can see other Twisted bags in different colours and patterns, as well as some of their other designs. D'n'J is a small local label, producing handmade bags, purses, and artist and make-up rolls, as well as getting ready to launch their own range of hand painted wooden jewellery and trinket boxes (we've seen them, they're awesome, escpecially the Space Invaders one!). Click the link below to see this bag on our website and shop!

Click here to buy the D'n'J Twisted Bag in Denim Floral on the Unorthodox online shop.

Almost the weekend, so have a good Friday everyone, and don't forget to check out those special offers.

Here Kitty Kitty

Morning

Much planning today for our special window display ready for next Saturday's street party on Sheep/Silver Street in Wellingborough. We're also donating a prize for the competitions, details of which I think can be found in the Evening Telegraph over the next week so keep your eyes open for the chance to win a Temporary:Secretary Plate Of Biscuits ring! The circus themed street party is on 25th September, all day, and there will be rides, entertainment, special offers, decorated shops, so come out and support your local high street (assuming that it is your local high street, if you live in Aberdeen I don't really expect you to make the trip, although Wellingborough is lovely in the Autumn, I hear!).

Very excited this week as our very first customer, Jo, is back in town after spending her summer working in Greece. Therefore if anyone wants any Barry M, I suggest you get in now, before she raids the stand tomorrow!

Pick Of The Day today is this Death Kitty Skull Bow T-Shirt. Available in Small, Medium and Large, this 100% cotton t-shirt is one of DK's new designs. The cuteness of the big pink bow is offset by the cheeky little skull in the centre, so perfect for when you want to be cute with an edge. Great value and quality, as always from the DK team. Available in store now, or order online at the link below.

Order your Death Kitty Skull Bow t-shirt here.

The week is almost at its end. Think we've got some surprises for you next week so stay tuned!

Painting The Town Red...and Pink, and Coral

Morning

Loved This Is England 86 last night. Standing by my prediction that all things associated with the variety of early 80s alt-culture is coming back, including elements of punk, 80s mods, skinheads (the non-racist kind!) and suedeheads, as well as the DM boots. Should be in for some good music too!

As they were featured a couple of times in this week's Heat magazine, our pick of the day are the Barry M Lip Paints. They are fantastic long-lasting lipsticks, favoured by fashionistas such as Paloma Faith and Robots In Disguise. We have a small selection of the most popular shades in stock, from coral, to all kinds of pinks, to the essential bright red. Come in store and try out the testers on our Barry M stand, or order them online from the link below. We have them priced at £4.25 (which is the RRP, keeping us in line with most of the large retailers!).

Have a good day!

This Is England 2010

Morning,

Got a few new Wildcat body jewellery pieces in this morning, notably 10mm Impression Eyelets with Cherry and Cat designs. All the air of a tunnel with the image-y fun of a plug. We have very limited stock of these, so it's first come first served.

We were in the Evening Telegraph yesterday, as part of their Love Wellingborough campaign. These things only seem to come up on the days I'm looking rough, and I have no idea what I found so funny but oh well! You can read the online version of the article (with a different picture for some reason) here.

Pick Of The Day today are these Dr Martens Iconic 1914 14-Eye Boots in Black. This is for many reasons. There's the usual DM ones, that they're great quality, stylish, durable, and iconic. The there's the specific ones like I'm wearing these today (proof that with a little TLC they can last ages as my pair are almost 10 years old), and that the second part of This Is England '86 is on tonight and it's a serious DM-fest. We reckon by the time the final part has aired, everyone will be digging out their boots so get in there first! Don't jump on the bandwagon, drive it! These are available from our online shop at the link below, or look in the Dr Martens section of the shop for different styles and colours.

Morning,

So have you had chance to check out the online shop yet? Really pleased with the response so far so thank you guys! We have a photoshoot this afternoon so hopefully we'll have some of the new stock from Rubertine Art, DJB and Monsalina on there next week.

Pick Of The Day today is this Rubertine Art Jimi Hendrix Airbrushed T-Shirt. Distinctive, it is hand-finished, limited numbers, and is much more of a piece of art than just a t-shirt. We have a selection of iconic designs in by Rubertine Art, including Alice Cooper, Wayne Rooney and 2Pac. They're all priced at £25.

Keep Calm & Shop!

Afternoon,

Sorry, tried to get this out to you earlier, but our online shop went live this morning so been very busy checking that is working for everyone and getting feedback. Check it out for yourself here. A big thank you to our web designer Rich, photographer Brian, and our models Matt, Tahnee, Steve, Louise, Rosie and Carly for all their help. We've not got everything from the shop on there yet, but there's hopefully enough for you to be getting on with!

In honour of this slightly stressful morning, pick of the day is one of our Temporary:Secretary Keep Calm And Carry On necklaces. Usually we feature the Vintage design ones, but this one is a Plain design with a simple pink background on a silverlook chain. I think it might be my favourite. Only one left in stock at the moment and it's £22. Get in quick!

Hope you all have that Friday feeling!

Morning,

Having one of those days where everything takes much longer than you anticipate. I blame Steve for hanging around and distracting me, and Tahnee for force feeding me junk. :) Also, been spending too much time giggle over the @CatBinLady Twitter. Really good, if you've not checked it out!

Pick Of The Day today is a limited edition WAM Apparel Snarling Dog t-shirt. Screen-printed locally, this is a bit of a classic from the little label, and these are the last so when they're gone, they're gone! The Snarling Dog designs is also available on a hoody. The t-shirts are available in Small, Medium and Large, and are £20 each.

Monochrome

Morning

Exhausting day yesterday getting all the new stock sorted and out on display, but we now have for you some lovely new Monsalina dresses at £28 each (pure bargain given the quality of them), a couple of graffiti art t-shirts by local DIY label DJB at £10, and some fantastic t-shirts from Rubertine Art with airbrushed designs of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Alice Cooper, Ice Cube, Kid, Wayne Rooney and Tupac at £25 each.

Today's Pick Of The Day is one of our new Monsalina dresses. Beautifully made by the people who also make the Special Evening dresses we have in, these are perfect for nights out or events. This one is white with black detail, but we also have it in black with white. There is an elasticated panel on the back that helps it fit perfectly, and allows for extra room up top for those who need it! Available in sizes 6 to 16, it comes with clear bra straps, and as this is a new label for us, we've got this and all our Monsalina dresses priced at £28. It's a great eyecatching piece for a bit of 60s monochrome chic!

Shiny Black

Morning,

Got our new ranges going out on to the racks today, all going well. We have airbrushed t-shirts from Rubertine Art featuring the likes of Bob Marley, 2Pac, Michael Jackson, Alice Cooper and more. We also have some new dresses in by Monsalina, available in sizes 6 to 16 (see, I said I'd try to expand our sizing options).

Remember how I said about seeing some great bands at The Horseshoe down the road on Monday? Well, this piece was in the Evening Telegraph yesterday, and shows one of the bands, The Liabilities. Frontman Steve also does a bit of modelling for us, and here he is wearing one of our Worn Free John Lennon 'New York City' t-shirts. Rock n roll!

This week's Heat magazine features a couple of pairs of Dr Marten boots, so I thought we should have one of those as pick of the day (and not just because I have them!). These are the Dr Martens Modern Classics 1460 8-Eye Boot in Black Patent Lamper. We get them in to order, and are available in sizes 3 to 9, for £75.

Water Water Everywhere

Morning,

First off, this is the 100th blog post for Unorthodox! To celebrate, I'll let you in on the special offer that's open to our Facebook followers. Head on over to our Facebook page for more info, and claim £5 off any Iska dress purchased between now and close of business on Saturday. For our mail order people, that means you still save after paying P&P (for those in the UK anyway, overseas mail order costs a little more I'm afraid)!

Arrived at the shop this morning to find that they had jet washed the pavement and it had all gone under the door, so if you visit today and find the entrance a little damp, I can only apologise! But if you all buy more things, we can have a less ugly carpet! :)

Pick Of The Day is one of the Iska dresses included in the offer. This Gold Trim Slinky Butterfly dress is really flattering on most figures and comes with the belt shown. The silky fabric is lush, and the gold trim on the sleeves and neckline add a little 80s-style glamour. Normally priced at £30, if you take advantage of the offer, it can be yours for a mere £25.

Oh, and before I go, for those in the Northamptonshire area, 25th September is a date for your diary. There's a street party on Sheep Street/Silver Street in Wellingborough and we'll be taking part. More info to come.

Fun Floral

Morning,

It's the first of the month. That means it's admin time so just a quick post this morning.

Pick Of The Day today are our Maddie Corsage Brooches. Lovingly handmade in Northamptonshire, each one is slightly different. We have them in a variety of colours and patterns, and each has a beaded or gemstone centre to add a little sparkle. A different way of adding a bit of flower power to your outfit. These are great for brightening up a plain top or jacket, adding glamour to a bag, or just plain ol' accessorising. We also have Maddie's corsage designs on headbands and hairslides. These brooches are only £4.00 each so they're a great way of treating yourself on a budget, or make a lovely little gift.

So glad the sun is still shining!
