End Of An Era

Morning,

Just a note to say that from the end of this month, we will switching to only selling online through our online shop and the last day our physical shop at 15 Silver Street, Wellingborough will be open is Saturday 25th June. After that, we'll still be able to get you all your favourite pieces, it will just be delivered to your door instead!

Because of this, we are having a massive sale as a big thank you to our customers. The sale is on both in store and online, and includes clothes by Death Kitty, Max C, Monsalina Chic, Worn Free, Spiral Direct, and even this season's Yumi. It also includes Temporary:Secretary jewellery, our ethically traded accessories and homeware, Smashing Glass glassware, and Stargazer hair dyes and false lashes. Some items have more than 50% off their original retail price!

Thank you to all of our in-store customers for all their support, and we hope we can still help you look unique via our online shop. In the meantime, enjoy the bargains!

Some of our bargains are below:

Death Kitty skirts only £10 and jeans from £12.

Lots of reductions on our ethically traded products.

All Iska dresses reduced to only £15.

All Spiral Direct pieces are now £20 or less too.

Our Stargazer hair dyes and false lashes have been reduced.

All of our Temporary:Secretary jewellery is in the sale.

Shine A Light

Morning,

Wow, you shoppers are up early today! To celebrate, we're extending our in-store offer on Yumi clothes. Get 10% off the marked price when you buy any Yumi item in store. Those buying online, we're still donating 10% of the price to Claire Friend's Race For Life fund.

We wave a sad goodbye to the last of our Temporary:Secretary Keep Calm & Carry On necklaces which sold this morning. We have also now sold out of the Yumi Marina Dress in Navy in Large, but we still have that size available in the Black, and all the other sizes are still in stock!

I wore one of the Yumi Yaura Leopard Tunic Dresses on Saturday night, and was convincingly informed by Anya that the leopard is actually a cheetah. Anyone else got any information on this one?

On a musical note (ha!), Retro-Beat on Saturday was brilliant. Always knew we were going to get a great performance from Karl Phillips & The Midnight Ramblers, but Great Imitation were a revelation! 2 fantastic bands, a great crowd, and an absolutely mind-blowing gig. If you get the chance to check either of them out live, make sure you do. Or get yourself a copy of the Karl Phillips & The Midnight Ramblers album from us!

Pick Of The Day today are these fantastic Barry M Lip Gloss Wands, £4.49 each. We've handpicked our favourite colours for you, and currently have them in stock in Toffee, Pastel Pink, Bubblegum Pink and Tropical Tango. They smell absolutely gorgeous, are vegan-friendly, and are perfect for a high-shine finish.

Have a great week!

Curiouser & Curiouser

Morning,

Hmm... not sure what's happened to the weather but I'm optimistic the sun will come back! But if that doesn't brighten your weekend, if you're in the area make sure you buy Saturday's Northants Evening Telegraph for another chance to grab one of our 10% off all Yumi clothing vouchers!

Any exciting plans for tomorrow? If not, pop in or order online. We're open from 10am until 4pm, then all day as usual on Saturday. Come have a browse and a chat!

Caught a bit of the Alice miniseries on Syfy the other day, so that has inspire me to have this Temporary:Secretary Alice In Wonderland Charm Necklace, £25.00, as our Pick Of The Day today. Hand-assembled by the oh so talented TempSec, it's made using brass vintage charms. Looks particularly fantastic with what we call our 'Alice dress', the Max C Bow Button Ruffle Sleeve Dress, but is a lovely piece to compliment any outfit. As this is our last one, order it or come in store before the close of business on Saturday and we'll throw in one of our Indian Glitz Heart Trinket Boxes as a little gift.

Ready for another long weekend?

Here Kitty Kitty Kitty

Morning,

I wish the weather would make it's mind up... I don't know whether it's still coat season or if I should just take a jacket (plus, I have my eye on one of the Yumi Malin Blazers).

Just a heads up that we will be shutting early today at 4.45pm. Sorry if this inconveniences anyone. I'm off flat hunting, and a homeless shopkeeper is not a happy shopkeeper! While we're shut, you can always leave us messages on our Facebook page, or browse, order and use the contact form on our online shop.

Pick Of The Day today are these Temporary:Secretary Hello Kitty Earrings, £6.00. We only have one pair left now, so if you've had your eye on them, act quickly! They are for pierced ears, with silver plated backings. The little Hello Kittys on them add a subtle bit of kitsch to any outfit.

Friday tomorrow!

Baby Blue

Morning,

Forgot to say yesterday, did you see our advert in the Spree section of the Northants Evening Telegraph on Monday? Right next to the piece on Hello Kitty. So it might be worth remembering we have fantastic Hello Kitty rings and earrings in the Temporary:Secretary section of our online shop!

Busy day yesterday, with lots of the Smashing Glass going out. The sale is still on and there are some real bargains to be had, especially among the Max C and Worn Free pieces. Have you had a look yet?

Sadly, we've now removed the Dr Marten New Authentic Zip Wedge boots from our online shop as these are no longer available in the colours we stock, although apparently they are still doing them in black, brown and red, so if you're interested, get in touch and we can put in a special order for you. We're also still waiting on the patent 8-Eye boots to come in, hopefully end of March/beginning April, so those who have ordered them, thank you for your patience! And if you've had your eye on some, get your order in quick, so we can guarantee you a pair in the colour and size you want.

Pick Of The Day is this gorgeous navy blue with cream trim Max C dress. It was originally £40 but is now in the sale for £25! It's a lovely light dress, perfect for spring, when the nautical look is back yet again. It also reminds us of Alice In Wonderland, and we think it looks great with the Temporary:Secretary Alice In Wonderland Charm Necklace. Because this is now a sale item (and has been much loved and admired!) we only have the dress in stock in limited sizes and numbers, but hopefully we'll have yours!

It Must Be Love

Morning,

Fingers are a bit numb with the cold so please forgive any typos, I can't feel the keys!

Our last Death Kitty Leopard Hoody has now sold. I will miss those as they were a big favourite of mine (I love all things feline) but I'm sure we'll find an equally fantastic new piece to take its place.

We're running a special offer until the end of Sunday. Full details are on our Facebook page, so follow us and have a look on there. It's worth it!

Today's Pick Of The Day is a subtle reminder it's only a few weeks until Valentine's Day! This Temporary:Secretary You're A Sweet Heart Necklace in Lipstick Red was worn by Fearne Cotton on the front of Sugar magazine. Colourful and cute, it's a great statement piece. They say about wearing your heart on your sleeve, but we think putting it round your neck is just as good. Be quick, because this is the last one we have!

Emptee At The End

Morning,

Hope you all had a good weekend. Had a fantastic Saturday night watching local bands Transmission and The Francis Jetty at Retro-Beat at The Horseshoe in Wellingborough. Was a fantastic gig!

We were in yesterday's Northants Evening Telegraph, in their Spree section. The article can be found here and the pictures from it are below.

For the record, the dress I'm holding is one of the Monsalina Chic Grecian Tunic dresses, and the mannequin is all dolled up in the Death Kitty Bow Skirt, RedRock Fashion Bleach-Out Tunic Vest and Temporary:Secretary Guitar Necklace. Big thank you to the lovely ET people for all their support and for covering local independents.

Pick Of The Day is something to get you in the mood for spring. This cropped tee is by RedRock Fashion, a Northampton based label with great attitude. This hot pink tee is decorated with shiny spandex and black lace. Cute and fun, with just a little sexy. RedRock is gathering an increasingly big following, including former Skins cast members, and is getting attention in the media, so take this opportunity to be fashion forward (I swore I'd never use that phrase!) and get a piece of the action now!

Right, off to sort out the weekend's internet orders to spread the Unorthodox love. Have a great day.

Paper Moon

Morning,

Only 2 left of the Temporary:Secretary Keep Calm & Carry On necklaces so if you've had your eye on one, get in now!

We're very excited to announce them from February, we will be stocking the fantastic label, Yumi, as worn by Lily Allen, Jameela Jamil, Sienna Miller and co. Really excited, and we think we've picked out some gorgeous pieces from the Spring/Summer 2011 range for your delight and delectation.

Pick Of The Day are these absolutely gorgeous necklaces by Irene Mosedale. We stock an assortment of necklaces and bracelets handmade by Irene, each unique and in different materials. These ones are especially lovely, as nestled amongst the usual beads are handmade patterned paper ones. The ultimate in recycling! All you have to do is pick the necklace in the colours you like best, then sit back, secure in the fact it's the only one out there. And for a tenner, they make great Xmas gifts for anyone who loves their crafts, their colours, or just wants a bit of boho hippy chic.

Lady Of The Flowers

Morning,

Sometimes these song-title inspired blog titles are pretty hard to come up with!

How are we all this Saturday? We're down to our last stock on quite a few pieces now so if you fancy the Temporary:Secretary Hello Kitty ring or the Iska Slinky Butterfly Dress, get in quick! Also, if everyone is pestering you to tell them what you want for Xmas, don't forget we can hold a wishlist for you, or we have the gift vouchers (gift vouchers are in store only).

Thank you to everyone who nominated us for Inspiring Independents. It's not too late so if you haven't already, send an e-mail to inspiringindies@drapersonline.com telling them you love us and why.

Also, Kat (that would be your blogger here) is going to be in the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph Spree section on Monday revealing the inside of her wardrobe. Please don't be too harsh in your judgements!

Pick Of The Day is this handmade, one-off, unique charm bracelet from JP Jewellery. Pretty and delicate, it has flower, cross, rose and leaf charms, and is perfect for glamming up bare arms (are you mad? It's freezing!) or adding a bit of sparkle to a simple outfit. Plus, you'll never see it on anyone else as it's the only one in the world.

Kitsch Kitty

Morning,

Well, it's Tuesday, which is the start of the Unorthodox week (we don't do Mondays). A very long to-do list and lots of paperwork await. But on a happier note, we have some new artwork in! I'll put the full details on here tomorrow but if you're in the area, come in and browse!

Pick Of The Day are these Temporary:Secretary Hello Kitty earrings. Made for pierced ears with silver plated backings, and measuring about 1cm x 1cm, they're a very cute little treat for all fans of Sanrio's little cat. We also have a matching Hello Kitty ring in stock, also by TempSec. All Temporary:Secretary pieces are hand-assembled, to order, keeping them exclusive and desirable. These are available in store or on our online shop, so why not treat yourself?

Here Kitty Kitty

Morning

Much planning today for our special window display ready for next Saturday's street party on Sheep/Silver Street in Wellingborough. We're also donating a prize for the competitions, details of which I think can be found in the Evening Telegraph over the next week so keep your eyes open for the chance to win a Temporary:Secretary Plate Of Biscuits ring! The circus themed street party is on 25th September, all day, and there will be rides, entertainment, special offers, decorated shops, so come out and support your local high street (assuming that it is your local high street, if you live in Aberdeen I don't really expect you to make the trip, although Wellingborough is lovely in the Autumn, I hear!).

Very excited this week as our very first customer, Jo, is back in town after spending her summer working in Greece. Therefore if anyone wants any Barry M, I suggest you get in now, before she raids the stand tomorrow!

Pick Of The Day today is this Death Kitty Skull Bow T-Shirt. Available in Small, Medium and Large, this 100% cotton t-shirt is one of DK's new designs. The cuteness of the big pink bow is offset by the cheeky little skull in the centre, so perfect for when you want to be cute with an edge. Great value and quality, as always from the DK team. Available in store now, or order online at the link below.

Order your Death Kitty Skull Bow t-shirt here.

The week is almost at its end. Think we've got some surprises for you next week so stay tuned!

Keep Calm & Shop!

Afternoon,

Sorry, tried to get this out to you earlier, but our online shop went live this morning so been very busy checking that is working for everyone and getting feedback. Check it out for yourself here. A big thank you to our web designer Rich, photographer Brian, and our models Matt, Tahnee, Steve, Louise, Rosie and Carly for all their help. We've not got everything from the shop on there yet, but there's hopefully enough for you to be getting on with!

In honour of this slightly stressful morning, pick of the day is one of our Temporary:Secretary Keep Calm And Carry On necklaces. Usually we feature the Vintage design ones, but this one is a Plain design with a simple pink background on a silverlook chain. I think it might be my favourite. Only one left in stock at the moment and it's £22. Get in quick!

Hope you all have that Friday feeling!

Very Vintage

Morning,

Did another photoshoot at the shop on Saturday, with two more lovely models, Carly from the Ra Ra Ryans and fashionista Rosie. Our fantastic photographer Brian is back in this evening so we can get the last bits photographed for the website.

If you're feeling stressed or just love all things retro/vintage, check out this Temporary:Secretary Keep Calm And Carry On necklace in Vintage Green. The pendant is 40mm x 30mm and it's on an 18 inch goldware chain. We also have it in stock in other colours, as well as in pink on a silverware chain. They are £22 each. Gorgeous vintage style, distinctive, and very TempSec.

Have a good Tuesday!

Let There Be Love

Morning

Got confirmation yesterday that my Death Kitty order is winging its way to me so hopefully that may come in today. Also may have some more artwork coming in to grace the walls.

Pick of the day is this Temporary:Secretary 'You're A Sweet Heart' necklace (photo courtesy of TempSec). The one pictured is in Lipstick Red and was worn by Fearne Cotton on the front of Sugar magazine. We have the Lipstick Red on a gold chain in stock, as well as the Marshmallow Pink on a silver chain. A very cute (and affordable!) statement piece.

I know orange make-up is very in this Summer so trying a coral nail varnish... Hmm... still not sure it's me.

And another week begins

Morning,

Hope everyone had a good weekend. From the visitors we had to the shop, it seems the Max C pieces are proving really popular for summer for the ladies, while the Worn Free t-shirts seem to be the pick for the boys.

Just a quick note to draw your attention to our local produce. We strongly believe in supporting the local community, especially it's artists, which is why alongside our big name labels, we also stock brand from within Northamptonshire. These currently include WAM Apparel t-shirts and hoodies, Maddie bags and accessories, JP Jewellery, Louise Berrill artwork, CDs by The Hounds, and perhaps the ultimate local label, Dr Martens. With all of these, we try to strike a fair deal for the producer in order to support and encourage them, and to offer you something that's different and in many cases, limited edition or one-offs. So next time you pop in, take a peek at some of the local bits and pieces, you may find a gem and lots of good karma!

Pick of the day today is this Temporary:Secretary Plate Of Biscuits ring. Cute as anything, the porcelain plate is about 3cm and covered in little tiny biscuits. As they are handmade, they can vary from the picture shown, but they are all very very cute. The ring is adjustable and 'one size fits all' so should suit most people. Guaranteed to make yourself or someone else smile.

Have a good week!

Match Day

Morning,

Apparently some of the new Max C items we're getting in are on their way to us now. Will let you know as soon as they're in but I reckon we've handpicked some lovely pieces from their High Summer collection.

Temporary:Secretary is a definite favourite of ours at Unorthodox, and seems to be very popular with our customers too. These are the now legendary Keep Calm And Carry On necklaces. Available in both plain and vintage (with the flower design on them), we have a range of colours in stock, but only one of each so be quick! Perfect for those expecting exam results this summer, those not expecting the World Cup results they want, or just those dealing with the stresses of every day life!

It's just typical that when I dress for sun, I get a cloudy day and chilly legs!

Say It With Roses

Morning,

Wow, hair dyes are flying out the door this week! Must be the season for it. Quite tempted to have a change myself.

Thought I'd pick something a bit romantic today for pick of the day. This Temporary:Secretary filigree rose ring does the job. It's a beautiful red rose on an adjustable filigree ring (so if it's a gift, no nasty sizes to be caught out by!). Lasts a lot longer than real roses too (as well as being considerably cheaper!). So whether you want to treat yourself and team it up with red nails, or you want to make a romantic gesture, come have a look at this one.

Post-Bank Holiday

Morning

Hope everyone enjoyed the bank holiday weekend.

We got some more JP Jewellery pieces in on Saturday. We now have some more earrings and a couple of bracelets. With prices starting at £5, they're a great collection. If you want something a little more kitschy cute, there is the Temporary:Secretary jewellery as well, which has been proving really popular, especially the Cupcake & Donut charm bracelet, where we now only have 2 left, one in silver and one in gold.

Pick of the day is this Death Kitty logo t-shirt. We have it in white/black as pictured, and also in pink/black and red/black. It has detachable sleeves on chains, and great safety pin detail. All in all, it's perfectly punk, and a great way of showing your love of the label. I have to say, Death Kitty are one of my favourites. Great designs, great quality, and the prices are really pretty darn good too! Even if you're style isn't particularly alternative, there are plenty of pieces that can be mixed and matched to suit any look.

Kawaii!

Morning

Well, mannequins have been changed again. Kurt is wearing Spiral Direct shorts with a WAM Apparel Snarling Dog t-shirt, Courtney is in the navy blue Max C dress, and Frances is wearing the Death Kitty red pinstripe drainpipe jeans with a Spiral Direct diamante skull bandeau top. Going to add the Temporary Secretary Alice charm necklace to Courtney and then they'll be all set for the week.

Pick of the day is this Temporary Secretary Hello Kitty ring (photo courtesy of Temporary Secretary). It's not going to put a strain on your wallet, and it's perfect to treat yourself or make someone smile. The ring is silver plated, and adjustable. We also have Temporary Secretary Hello Kitty earrings too.

Anyway, not feeling too great today so I'll cut this short and go sit in a corner until I feel better!
