Neon Glow

Morning,

Our new Monsalina Chic dresses are going on the online shop today. They're already selling really well, so if you love one, get in quick! We'll get the new RedRock Fashion pieces up as well as soon as possible.

All you last minute shoppers, remember we're open until 6.30pm on Christmas Eve!

Pick Of The Day today are a great stocking filler. These Stargazer Neon Gel Colours add some colour to your hair but can be washed out with shampoo so they're perfect when you don't want to commit. They also glow under UV lights so they're perfect for gigs, clubbing and nights out. The applicator makes them easy and clean to use, so well worth grabbing one for the party season!

I'm Blue

Morning,

The new Monsalina Chic dresses are on the racks as part of our new Little Black Dress display, to help you find the perfect one. Also, the new RedRock Fashion pieces will also be going on the shelves this morning. We're getting all of these photographed this afternoon so hope to have them on the online shop before Christmas.

Got a few photoshoots going on at the Unorthodox studio today with our photographer Brian Chapman. More news to come on that front, but today we've got Daniel Cheney (one of our artists) being photographed as part of our Local Heroes series, as well as our usual model Tahnee showing off the new pieces. Plus, while Tahnee's doing this I get to entertain her son Zack so quite looking forward to that too!

Pick Of The Day is this gorgeous Special Evening dress. Since Kate Middleton's engagement announcement dress, darker shades of blue have been all over the place so there's never been a better time to treat yourself to this one. The straps are adjustable and there's an elasticated panel at the back to help it fit perfectly. All the Special Evening dresses are a bargain at £55.00 given the beautiful quality and detail.

Have a great weekend and remember we're open every day until Xmas!

Butterfly

Morning,

The Monsalina Chic dresses have just arrived, so will get them all hung up by tomorrow, ready for your approval. We'll also try to get them photographed and on the online shop as soon as we can. They are three different styles of black dress, one in a jersey fabric and very 60s, one black lace number, and one chiffon Grecian tunic dress. All beautiful!

Our Pick Of The Day today is this beautiful Butterfly Vase by Smashing Glass. Smashing Glass is all handpainted by local artist Dorne Boddington, so each piece is unique and collectable. They are always much admired, and most people never stop at just one! This vase is a beautiful blue with a gorgeous butterfly design. Perfect for thinking of warmer times!

Ready for the weekend? If not, we're sure we can help!

Daydream Believer

Morning,

Hoping to have our lovely new Monsalina Chic and RedRock Fashion pieces in for you this weekend, but we will keep you posted. We've also got a little Stargazer Neon Glitter Shaker stand that's going into the Horseshoe Inn (the world's smallest pop up shop, if you will), so if you're out in Wellingborough over the festive season, pop in and buy some and add a little sparkle to your night.

Pick Of The Day is this signed, limited edition print of Daydream by Richard Stones. This colourful, unique, surreal print is a great example of Richard's work, and exclusively available from Unorthodox. If this one doesn't take your fancy, check out the art section of the website for more of Richard and our other artists' work.

California Love

Morning,

Still looking for that perfect Christmas present? Either pop in store and we can always help you pick something out, or have a look at our online shop. But be quick, due to the weather in some areas we're trying to get all orders for Christmas out ASAP.

Pick Of The Day today is this Rubertine Art Airbrushed T-Shirt featuring Tupac. All of our Rubertine Art t-shirts are airbrushed by hand so each is more of a work of art than a t-shirt. Distinctive, and perfect for all 2Pac fans.

You Make Me Want To Drink Bleach

Morning,

Had a great weekend. Thanks to all our customers, both in store and online.

For our Xmas opening times we've added some extra hours in the run up, and will be open every day until Xmas:
As normal except
Sunday 19th: 10am - 4pm
Monday 20th: 9am - 5.30pm
Xmas Eve: 9am - 6.30pm

We will then be closed Xmas Day and reopen on Wednesday 29th.

Next, some news on our Dr Martens. The Patent 8-Eye boots are out of stock until March (with the Cherry Red Patent having been discontinued). These can still be ordered now to ensure you get them, but we will contact everyone who orders them to make sure they are ok with the later than usual delivery date.

Our new Monsalina Chic dresses are due in this week (and maybe some RedRock Fashion pieces too) so if you've not got all your presents and party gear ready yet, keep your eyes open for those.

Pick Of The Day today is this RedRock Fashion Bleach-Out Tunic Vest. Brown with a bleached pattern (like tie-dye, but with balls), this is a very flattering and versatile top. RedRock are a Northampton based up-and-coming label, and has already got the attention of the Skins cast after their very successful London show a few months back. We love their pieces and their attitude, so make sure you grab yourself one of their pieces before they become very famous and expensive. :)

Have a great week! As we're open every day until Xmas, you'll be hearing a lot more from me!

It Takes A Village

Morning,

We've restocked our Stargazer Glitter Shakers down the road at The Horseshoe Inn so this weekends revellers can cover themselves in sparkliness. They're available behind the bar for the usual £3.00. There are also some Stargazer Neon Gel Colours available there too, as well as in the shop and online.

Pick Of The Day today is one of our beautiful pieces of signed original artwork by Pippa Alice. This one is called The Village and shows that whilst she's an amazing artist, I'm not sure what Pippa would be like as an architect! An original one-off, this little piece is on handmade recycled cotton rag paper, and is small enough to brighten any little space. Great as a gift that's easily mailed, or as a treat for yourself.

Have a great weekend!

Rather than make you wait until tomorrow, I thought I'd give you the details of our sale now! It's now on, in the shop and on our online shop. It's all while stocks last, and we reserve the right to withdraw or alter the offers at any time. They cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Right, now that bit is out of the way, here's some info on what's available:

All of our Max C dresses are now £35 or under, which is drastically below the RRP! Some of these pieces are absolutely gorgeous, so get in quick because when they're gone, they're gone!

Death Kitty
We've reduced some of our Death Kitty collection, even though we are one of the cheapest retailers stocking the brand already! The trousers are especially a bit of a bargain!

Worn Free
All of the Worn Free t-shirts we have in stock have been reduced to £30.

Spiral Direct
Been eyeing up the men's shorts from Spiral Direct? Now they are all reduced but still the same great quality, so take the plunge!

Almost There

Morning,

Well, reaction to the new dresses seems positive. Thank you to everyone who has commented on our Facebook or popped in. Always good to get feedback! As always, if you can't see the size or style you are looking for, just ask! I may have it stashed away, or I may be able to get you one, or at least I know what to get more of next time!

Since I've been banging on about dresses so much, I thought I'd go with a pick of the day that may appeal to the men. This is another one of our Worn Free t-shirts. I've already gone on before about what great quality they are, how they're fully licensed replicas of t-shirts worn by icons, and how much I love them, so I won't bore you with that again. This one is 'as worn by' John Lennon. Nice, non?

In a few hours we'll be half way to the weekend, so hang on in there, people!

Start of the Waendal weekend

It's the start of the Waendal Weekend in Wellingborough today. Basically, people come from all over the place (even abroad) to walk and cycle around Wellingborough and the surrounding villages. I think registration started at 10am this morning at the Castle (it's a theatre, not an actual castle, for those not familiar with the town!) so I expect to see people in walking boots and rucksacks wander past fairly shortly. Can't say I've ever joined in with it. Even my trainers have heels! But hope it goes well for everyone if you're taking part! It does mean I finally got to put up an 'entree libre' sign (as per last blog entry) as part of my 'We speak French' sign. I don't know how many French-speaking tourists turn up for the Waendal Weekend, but I'm trying to be enterprising. Lots of German and Dutch people come, but I don't speak any of the relevant languages!

Decided today's pick of the day should be something for the men, so this is one of the Worn Free t-shirts we carry. Worn Free is a fantastic label (wear them a lot myself) who make licensed republicas of t-shirts seen on various icons. Massive in the States, and having just relaunched in Europe, their t-shirts are available in some of the best department stores, and I'm thrilled to have them in here. They're always great quality, and come with a tag showing the star who wore it in the original. This one is a Muhammad Ali one, which we have in black or white. It has a great back print, too.
We also have some of their t-shirts as worn by Keith Moon, Joey Ramone and Joan Jett, and well as a fantastically retro Jimmy Cliff/Harder They Come one that has been attracting a lot of attention. Hopefully they'll start doing the women's fit ones over here too, as I know a lot of the ladies would love them too! In the meantime, we do have some of these in the smaller sizes as well, if the girls want to give them a go.

Hoping to progress with the online shop as soon as possible so for those too far away from the shop, keep checking in and I promise to keep you posted.

Vote For Unorthodox!

Well, this is Unorthodox's 3rd day of being open. Had lots of people in to have a look around, and if you haven't had a chance yet, please do! I can't help but wish the English language had its own version of the French phrase 'entrée libre'. It's usually a sign on a shop door, and it means that you are welcome to go in and browse ('without obligation to buy'). That's pretty much how I feel about Unorthodox. Noone is under any pressure when they come in, but some people look so nervous and I feel very guilty when they do! So please, if you're walking by, have a look! Have a seat! Be as quick or as lingering as you like! :)

Anyway, Thursdays are traditionally half-day closing in Wellingborough (but we're open till 5.30pm!), and town does seem a bit quieter today. Or maybe everyone's off voting. It's a bit dull and grey as well, so for everyone who, like me, is longing for sunshine, I have picked out a cute-as-anything summer dress as my pick of the day. It's a Max C dress, and we currently have a few in stock. It hangs really nicely and has the oversized pockets that seem to be everywhere at the moment, and seems a pretty versatile addition to anyone's wardrobe to me!

Just had a chat with the Evening Telegraph so keep you eyes open for us being featured in there over the next couple of days! I'm sure I babbled like an idiot, so please do not judge the shop by my incoherence!

Right, back to work! Please keep me posted on the type of things you'd like to see in the shop (and on the website when it's finished!). I've been looking at some lovely 50s style dresses, and hoping to get a few local labels involved too.
