Scentless Apprentice

Morning,

We popped out to the acoustic night at The Horseshoe last night so feeling a little fuzzy this morning. That, and the killer hayfever.

We now have the Yumi Xaviera Parrot Sun Dress back in stock in size S/M in Navy, so if you've been looking out for one of those, make sure you make it yours!

Pick Of The Day today is this Nag Champa Incense, £2.00, from our ethically traded range. It's great for chilling out and scenting your home from one of the biggest brands. You get loads in a box, so your £2 goes a long way!

Each Man Kills The Thing He Loves

Morning,

Quite like it when it rains, gives me an excuse to use my Audrey Hepburn umbrella. They're currently out of stock, but I will let you know when we get them back in. As it's Retro-Beat tonight at The Horseshoe down the road, with The Francis Jetty playing live, I'm tempted to treat myself to a new dress. I'm thinking of going for the Yumi Meila Lace Tea Dress, but I'm not sure which colour to choose. If you have any ideas, let us know on our Twitter account. I think I'm going to have to try them all on to see. It's a hard life! :)

Make sure you grab a copy of the Northants Evening Telegraph if you're in the area on Monday. Check out their fantastic fashion, beauty and shopping section, Spree, and look out for our fantastic new advert, showing our artist and model Rebecca in the Yumi Xaviera Parrot Sun Dress in beige. Cut out the advert and bring it in to receive 10% off all Yumi clothes!

Pick Of The Day today is this Ethically Traded 'Better To Have Loved And Lost' Retro Metal Sign, £7.00. It features the wise words 'It's better to have loved and lost than to live with the psycho for the rest of your life'. Admit it, if you don't need this sign, you certainly know someone who does! It features a retro fifties housewife image, and comes with the wire attached ready to hang. A great gift for yourself, or a recently single friend (maybe use your discretion on that one!).

Have a great weekend!

Heart-Shaped Box

Morning,

We are launching a special offer next week. On Tuesday morning, we'll announce a discount code to get 10% off on our online shop. The code will be announced on our Facebook page and on our Twitter, as well as on here. To make sure the code works for you, all you have to do is register on our online shop before 9am on Tuesday. Just click here to get registered.

Lovely sunny Friday today, and everyone seems to have come out early. Not usually so busy first thing but helps wake me up so thank you to everyone who has popped in already!

Went out for dinner last night to Little India in nearby Earls Barton so still feeling stuffed and sleepy today. Really enjoyed it, but Saffron in Wellingborough is still my favourite Indian restaurant for the time being. Then promptly got home and fell asleep on the sofa watching Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. It's a very rock and roll lifestyle we lead!

Pick Of The Day today are these ethically traded Indian Glitz Trinket Boxes, £3.50 each, available in pink, purple or turquoise. These make perfect little gifts or are a great way of keeping your little bits and bobs safe and tidy. They are heart-shaped metal boxes, fully lined, and decorated with multicoloured sequins and bells. Just beautiful!

Have a great day. Catch you tomorrow.

Nelly The Elephant

Morning,

It's the weekend! Those in the Northamptonshire area, we strongly recommend checking out Retro-Beat at The Horseshoe Inn in Wellingborough, where The Aviation Society are playing live tonight. We're heading down. I think I'm going to be digging out the Monsalina Chic Black Lace Dress to wear, and adding the purple Stargazer False Eyelashes, so look out for me if you pop down!

Got a photoshoot this afternoon for the last couple of Yumi pieces (they are a gorgeous summer dress called Xaviera and a beautiful tunic dress with a leopard cub on the front called Yaura). It's going to be our fantastic photographer Brian Chapman taking the piccies, and we've got local artist Rebecca Sturdgess modelling for us again. Very excited!

Pick Of The Day today is another of our ethically traded products. This is the Ethically Traded Elephant Border Shoulder Bag, only £10.00! It's available in red or black. Handmade in Thailand in fair conditions and for fair pay, the main section of the bag has a paisley pattern and little shiny gems, and the borders are embroidered in gold thread with images of elephants. It also has wooden bead detailing on the straps. The sparkly bits and gold thread add a bit of glamour to your boho!

Have a great weekend, and if we don't hear from you today, we'll be back on Tuesday.

Pinky & Punky

Morning,

We're feeling somewhat delicate again in Unorthodox this morning. I should know by now that when going for a Friday after-work drink, "just the one" never works out that way. I'm blaming Pete and photographer Brian for leading me astray! I also managed to prove how truly awful I am at playing pool. But still, we are hear and chirpy and ready to help you with all your weekend fashion needs!

We thought we'd have something versatile and cheap for our Pick Of The Day today. This Pink Punk Scarf is ethically traded (see our previous blog posts for more information on our ethically traded products). It's a long, wide tassled scarf with a pink tartan pattern, and can be worn in any number of different ways. Plus, for only £6.00, it's a great little accessory bargain.

Order your Pink Punk Scarf on our online shop.

Have a great weekend, and if we don't see or hear from you today, we'll catch up with you on Tuesday.

Flowers In The Window

Morning,

I have to say, I really love it when we get feedback from customers. So thank you to everyone who takes the time to comment on our Facebook, tweet us, e-mail us, or just pop in to let us know what they think. With your input, we're always striving to improve our services and make sure we have more of the pieces you want. So glad to hear how much everyone loves the new Spring/Summer collections too! If you've bought something from us and want to tell us what you think, or have any ideas, please let us know. We have our Facebook page (with a reviews tab that you're welcome to use) and our Twitter account, as well as this blog, or pop in or get in touch through the online shop.

Our pink fluffy fairy lights in the window have died. I think it's one of those situations where you have to try every bulb to see which one is the problem. Not looking forward to that!

Pick Of The Day today (taking a break from our Yumi fixation) are these ethically traded Sequined Flower Bags. Available in turquoise or purple, these are handmade in Thailand. These bags are decorated with sequins and embroidery, and are light enough not to be a burden, but big enough to be a useful everyday bag. They're proving very popular! All of our ethically traded products come from Windhorse, who are a company that trade according to Buddhist values and ethos. They give all of their suppliers a fair price, build connections with them, monitor wages and working conditions, minimise environmental impact, and use some of their profits on projects within the communities where the products are made. All in all, they are good people and when you purchase any of our ethically traded products, you're helping to support their work. Good on you! Check out the Ethically Traded Products section of our online shop for more of their wonderful bits and pieces!

Breakneck

Morning,

Just had the first few photos back from our Yumi shoot, so will get the pieces I do have photos for onto the online shop today. Keep your eyes open for those (or just follow our Facebook or Twitter feeds for the most up to date news).

You know how the magazines are all raving about the trend for colour at the moment? Well make sure you check out our RedRock Fashion pieces. If you want colour, this is the way to wear it! Not all of the pieces we have in store are on the online shop yet but I'll try to sort this as soon as possible.

We have a couple of kimonos in the shop (on the website soon, I promise!) that are getting lots of attention. These are ethically traded and reversable, so you can either wear the patterned pink side with the black trim, or the black side with the embroidered dragon and pink trim. Yes, I'll admit, it's a bit random, but I really like them!

Pick Of The Day are these new glittery mesh scarves, available in pink or purple. These are ethically traded from Thailand. They're great for brightening up outfits (they look especially good against monochrome ones), or can be tied around your head or waist. Basically, they're all sorts of awesome in their versatility. Plus, at only £6 each, they're almost obligatory!

View and order your glittery scarf on our online shop.

Wednesday, almost halfway through the week!

Yumi Yumi Yumi

Morning,

Today is the launch day for our gorgeous new Yumi Spring/Summer 2011 collection! It's now on the rails in store and we'll have it on the online shop next week. Not decided on a favourite yet, but loving the Marina dresses (butterflies and sparkliness!) and the gorgeous Ormanda skirts (lacy floralness). Actually, loving all of it! Very excited to be a Yumi stockist, so make sure you check it out. Also, a big thank you to Kaz for looking after the shop while I hung it all up!

Now, since I have to get tags on all of the aforementioned gorgeous Yumi pieces, this is going to be a quick post today!

Pick Of The Day is another one of our ethically traded products. This embroidered green bag was handmade in Thailand. Fully lined, it features embroidered elephants, butterflies and flowers. Perfect for a hippy chic/boho look. Plus, as it's ethically traded, you're sure to get plenty of good karma from it!

Can't Buy Me Love

Morning,

Well, got quite a few of our new items up on the online shop yesterday, and going to try to get the rest up today. These new items are from an ethical trading company. Set up originally as a Buddhist organisation, they source products from around the world making sure the conditions and pay are fair, and put their profits back into projects in those communities. So not only do you have the chance to own some lovely things, you can feel all warm and fuzzy about it too. We focused on putting up the things for your home yesterday, and today we'll get all the new bags and accessories on there.

New items include:

Nag Champa Incense
Elephant Rainbow Incense Set
'Better To Have Loved And Lost...' Retro Metal Sign
'I Smile Because...' Retro Metal Sign
'Money Can't Buy Happiness' Retro Metal Sign
Indian Glitz Heart Trinket Box

Pick Of The Day is one of our new retro-inspired metal signs. This one reads 'People who say money can't buy happiness obviously don't know where to shop'. Might be our new motto! We have a few designs of these signs in, and we think they're fantastic, right down to the distressed look, 50's influenced graphics, and witty statements. They come with the wire, ready to hang. This one is a perfect gift for the shopper in your life (or just keep it for yourself!).

It's Friday! Any exciting plans?

The Eyes Have It

Morning,

New in the shop today is a fantastic canvas painted by Dorne Boddington, the talented artist behind the Smashing Glass pieces we stock. Taking inspiration from early comic book art, it's a fantastic painted of Thor (movie coming out soon!). It is now on display in the shop, and available to buy. I'll try to get it photographed and onto the online shop soon.

I'm told our fantastic new ethically traded products will be in towards the end of next week, so looking forward to showing those off to all of you!

Pick Of The Day today are these Stargazer False Eyelashes. Great for adding a little glamour to any look, they are easy to use and the glue is included. Take care of them, and they can be reused multiple times. Available in a variety of styles and colours, we can also order in the Stargazer feather eyelashes specially if that's what you're after (much loved by the burlesque community!). Top tips for application that we've been told include putting eyeshadow on after the lashes (using tissue to stop it falling on the lashes) to help them stick, and putting black eyeliner on the upper lids first so any small gaps between the false lashes and your real ones aren't noticable. Finish with a bit of clear mascara on your natural lashes to bring them into line, and voila, the windows to your soul are all spruced up!

Have a great weekend!

Jersey Sure

Morning,

Had a great meeting with a new supplier yesterday and we're going to be bringing you some fantastic ethically traded bits from them very soon, including Audrey Hepburn umbrellas, beautiful bags and scarves, kimonos, incense, and other lovely odds and ends. They're a company that put a lot of money back into the communities they work with around the world, originally started by Buddhists, so I'm hoping we'll all get some good karma out of it!

Our online shop now has a Sale section where you can find all of our sale items in one place. Why not see if you can grab a bargain in the sale section now! One of them is the Max C Jersey Rosette Bubble Dres which when I checked last night was on Max C's own online shop for it's RRP of £42 and we have it in the sale for only £20!

Oh, and an update on Dave, the fictitious manager... he just received a phone call. I'm still giggling!

Pick Of The Day is this Monsalina Chic Black Jersey Dress. It's a lovely long-sleeved dress that is that rarest of rare things, smart *and* comfortable! With a loose fit, but enough expert tailoring to keep it shapely, it has fantastic black shiny plastic discs detailing the waist, and ties at the back with a thick black ribbon. It can be dressed up, worn for work, or just teamed with some flats. I grabbed one of these when they first came in (so I can advise anyone to consider trying a dress size lower than they may normally take... which is always nice!) and I've found no end of occasions so far where it's been the perfect choice (and don't we all want to get our money's worth!). The fabric is really soft too, making it all cosy, which is great for this time of year when it's still a bit drafty! As with all of our dresses, we only get limited stock so when it's gone, it's gone! So don't delay, this is one you won't suffer with shopper's remorse for!

It's FRIDAY!
