End Of An Era

Morning,

Just a note to say that from the end of this month, we will switching to only selling online through our online shop and the last day our physical shop at 15 Silver Street, Wellingborough will be open is Saturday 25th June. After that, we'll still be able to get you all your favourite pieces, it will just be delivered to your door instead!

Because of this, we are having a massive sale as a big thank you to our customers. The sale is on both in store and online, and includes clothes by Death Kitty, Max C, Monsalina Chic, Worn Free, Spiral Direct, and even this season's Yumi. It also includes Temporary:Secretary jewellery, our ethically traded accessories and homeware, Smashing Glass glassware, and Stargazer hair dyes and false lashes. Oh Kayla

Morning,

Just got the new copies of Image magazine in today so they will be given away free with all clothing purchases on a first come first serve basis, so come grab yours now! Look out for our prom dress advert in there, too!

We're now down to the last one of our super-flattering Iska Layers Dress, which is on sale for only £20.00. Definitely a bargain!

Pick Of The Day today are these Death Kitty Kayla Pants, £17.00 in the sale. They're wide-leg jeans in black with a really cool red pinstripe. We also have a drainpipe jeans version in stock too. Death Kitty make perfectly punky pieces that are great quality and value, so give a pair of these a try!

Hope your week is going well!

An Eye For An Eye

Morning,

I've declared Winter over and bought out my pink Raybans. That's the official sign of Spring. :)

Going to be doing some price reductions later, so keep your eyes open for those!

Yesterday I finished reading Kate Atkinson's Started Early, Took My Dog. I'd not read any of her books before, and it was quite an interesting novel, if not particularly earth-shattering. Might give some of her other books a go. Bit of a holiday read, if you're going away this Summer. I have now started on The Last Of The Hippies by CJ Stone that our photographer Brian has loaned to me.

Today's Pick Of The Day is one of the most distinctive types of Dr Marten available. If you really love them, say it loud and proud with these Dr Marten 1B60 20-Eye Zip Boots in Cherry Red, £120.00 (also available in black). They have a zip on the inside leg so you won't spend forever getting in and out of them, as well! These look especially awesome with one of our Death Kitty skirts!

Have a great day. Almost Friday!

Lovecats

Morning,

Big thank you to @funkyninjadoo for sharing her Dazzle Dust tips with us on the comments section of Saturday's blog post!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. We're launching a special offer (in store only, I'm afraid, on this one) on our Stargazer Semi-Permanent Conditioning Hair Colours later today. Keep your eyes open on our Facebook page or our Twitter feed for more information on that.

Did you see us in the Good Taste supplement in Saturday's Northamptonshire papers? I gave my words of wisdom (hmm!) on what looks to go for this Spring/Summer and they featured our gorgeous Yumi Ormanda Floral Lace Skirt.

Pick Of The Day today is this punky Death Kitty Red Tartan Skirt, £15.00. We showed off the Purple Tartan version a few weeks ago. We only have 1 left in the red, so if you're a size Small, this is your lucky day so get in quick and make this yours! It has a black net underskirt, and the Death Kitty logo safety pinned to the front. Cute, tough and perfectly punky.

Have a great day.

In-Vest

Morning,

It's the weekend! Let the excitement commence. We'll most likely be heading down the road to The Horseshoe tonight to check out Unorthodox Boy, Pete, DJing for Retro-Beat, with The Lucky 27's and The Tea Rooms playing live. Got any exciting plans?

Still not got around to re-dying my hair. Procrastination, it's my biggest fault! But it will be back to all of it's Stargazer Violet glory very soon!

Pick Of The Day today is this Max C Lace Bow Vest Top, now on sale at £17.00 (reduced from £25.00). Sizes and stock are now very limited, so get in quick for a Summer bargain. This cream vest is decorated with black lace detail, and a small pearl-effect charm in the gathered centre of the bow. As it's a long vest top, it can be worn any number of ways, and monochrome is very big this season. In this photo we have teamed it with Death Kitty Skull Rose Leggings, but it also looks fantastic just worn with jeans and maybe a Yumi Malin Blazer to follow the monochrome theme.

Have a great Saturday. If you're popping in the shop, we look forward to seeing you, or just place your order online via our online shop and we'll get them out to you ASAP.

Tartan Army

Morning,

Hope you all had a good weekend. We have now heard that the patent Dr Martens that we've been waiting on are now due in around 15th April. We apologise for the delay to those who have them pre-ordered. For those who don't and who fancy a pair, the quicker you get your order in, the more likely we are to get it to you in the size and colour you want quickly. So why not treat yourself this spring?

We had local band The Liabilities in on Saturday to do a shoot with our photographer, Brian Chapman. It was the usual carnage associated with those lot (I keep finding random scarves and jackets upstairs now). If you're in the Northampton area on Friday, they're playing at the Avenue campus Student Union.

Pick Of The Day today is this perfectly punky Death Kitty Purple Tartan Skirt, £15.00 (we also have a few left of the red tartan version). It has a black net tutu trim at the bottom, and the Death Kitty logo safety pinned on the front, for added effect. It's a really fun little skirt, and looks great with leggings or over trousers (or be daring and just bare legs, if the weather's getting warmer!).

Spring has sprung!

Ra Ra Riot

Morning,

Bit of an end of an era coming to Wellingborough. The Chinese restaurant, Chi Chi's, down the road is going to be under new management as the current owners are retiring. I've been going in there since I was about 9 (erm, that'd be about 20 years then) so I'm going to miss them! So last night we went down there for our final meal (unless I can wangle another out of friends or relatives before they leave at the beginning of April). Was almost emotional! Suffice to say, I did not require a large breakfast this morning!

I would do what everyone else is doing and discuss the first part of the new series that started last night, Lily Allen: From Riches To Rags, but I was out so I have it recorded and will catch up soon. Anything involving Mary Portas always gets my vote, though (I can pretend it's work-related).

We are marking the passing of Nate Dogg (because as I have divulged above, I am of a certain age!) so thought it was a good excuse to relive his contribution to Warren G's Regulate (if you're looking at the Blogspot blog, there's a video here. If you're reading it on our Facebook notes, look for the link at the bottom that lets you view the original post to see it).

Anyway, on a happier note, it's Pick Of The Day time! This Death Kitty Bow Skirt, £15.00, is now only available in M/L and stock is very limited. One of our most popular pieces, this cute ra ra skirt is made up of 3 light black layers with white trim, and white bow detail all around. The waist is elasticated, so there's a bit of flexibility on sizing. It's such a simple skirt but so distinctive, and monochrome is always hot. Looks great over leggings (especially the Death Kitty Skull Rose Leggings!).

Right, I'm off to keep reminding myself it's Wednesday.

Polka

Morning,

It's all a bit mad here today! Our lovely new ethically traded products have arrived so will be getting them all unpacked and out on display, as well as onto the online shop. The incense is really making the shop smell nice! Also, our Spring/Summer collection by Yumi is coming in very very soon and need to get organised! I'm not panicking, I swear!

We added a few new items to the online shop already this week, so make sure you check out:

'Thor' by Dorne Boddington signed original canvas.

RedRock Fashion Ruffle Vest in Grey/Blue.

Keep checking the New In section on the online shop for more of our recent additions.

Pick Of The Day is this Death Kitty Red Polka Dot Skirt. Polka dots are everywhere for spring and this is a great way to wear them with attitude! This piece has a black net underskirt and black lace trim, with a black ribbon in the centre of the waistband. The waist is elasticated so it's comfortable and you can be a bit more flexible on size! Very cute with a pair of leggings! Death Kitty are a London-based label, who are currently striving to keep as much of their production in the UK as possible, to prevent the increasing problem of pollution in industrial areas of China. Currently, about 80% of their items are made in the UK.

View and order the Death Kitty Red Polka Dot Skirt on our online shop.

Have a great Thursday! Off to run round manically so if you're in the area, feel free to come in and point and laugh.

The World Is A Vampire

Morning,

Got The Joy Formidable's new album, The Big Roar, on in the shop this morning. Really loving it! It manages to be reminiscent of a lot of the 90s girl-fronted indie/rock that I loved, while sounding completely up to date. Really worth checking out if you get chance. The one added here is not on the album, but does feature Paul Draper of Mansun.

Anyway, now that you've had your musical interlude, I think it's time for Pick Of The Day.

This is the Death Kitty Vampette Dress. It's now in the sale at only £15, but stock and size availability are very very limited! It's a gorgeous cotton halterneck dress with a zip fastening at the back. The 50s retro style of the dress and print make it such a cute piece, a very in keeping with retro-influenced stylistas like Paloma Faith and Imelda May. The print features lollipops, sunglasses and fangs. Whether you're more Twilight or True Blood, show your vamp love without resorting to all black. As with everything, we only had these in stock in limited numbers and they were very popular so can't guarantee we'll have these long!

View or buy the Death Kitty Vampette Dress on our online shop.

Have a great week!

It Must Be Love

Morning,

Fingers are a bit numb with the cold so please forgive any typos, I can't feel the keys!

Our last Death Kitty Leopard Hoody has now sold. I will miss those as they were a big favourite of mine (I love all things feline) but I'm sure we'll find an equally fantastic new piece to take its place.

We're running a special offer until the end of Sunday. Full details are on our Facebook page, so follow us and have a look on there. It's worth it!

Today's Pick Of The Day is a subtle reminder it's only a few weeks until Valentine's Day! This Temporary:Secretary You're A Sweet Heart Necklace in Lipstick Red was worn by Fearne Cotton on the front of Sugar magazine. Colourful and cute, it's a great statement piece. They say about wearing your heart on your sleeve, but we think putting it round your neck is just as good. Be quick, because this is the last one we have!

Emptee At The End

Morning,

Hope you all had a good weekend. Had a fantastic Saturday night watching local bands Transmission and The Francis Jetty at Retro-Beat at The Horseshoe in Wellingborough. Was a fantastic gig!

We were in yesterday's Northants Evening Telegraph, in their Spree section. The article can be found here and the pictures from it are below.

For the record, the dress I'm holding is one of the Monsalina Chic Grecian Tunic dresses, and the mannequin is all dolled up in the Death Kitty Bow Skirt, RedRock Fashion Bleach-Out Tunic Vest and Temporary:Secretary Guitar Necklace. Big thank you to the lovely ET people for all their support and for covering local independents.

Pick Of The Day is something to get you in the mood for spring. This cropped tee is by RedRock Fashion, a Northampton based label with great attitude. This hot pink tee is decorated with shiny spandex and black lace. Cute and fun, with just a little sexy. RedRock is gathering an increasingly big following, including former Skins cast members, and is getting attention in the media, so take this opportunity to be fashion forward (I swore I'd never use that phrase!) and get a piece of the action now!

Right, off to sort out the weekend's internet orders to spread the Unorthodox love. Have a great day.

It's All Greek To Me

Morning,

First up, we'll do our Pick Of The Day.

Our Pick Of The Day for today is this Monsalina Chic Grecian Tunic Dress in Black (we do have a random size 12 red one lurking around the shop, though, if that takes your fancy). It's been created out of layers of chiffon so you get the floaty effect without compromising your modesty! It has metallic embroidery and sequins around the neckline to add a little extra glamour, and the elasticated waist means it fits like it was made for you. I always have to stress with Monsalina Chic dresses that we find their pieces are fantastic quality, really well designed and made, and great value, so you're getting a classic piece to last you through the seasons. This dress looks great with leggings, or teamed with some gladiator sandals in the summer. As with everything we stock, numbers are limited so if you love it, make it yours now! Go on, it's Friday, treat yourself.

View this dress on our online shop.

This week we have sold out of the Death Kitty Nautical Star Bag, so we wave a fond farewell to those and hope those of you who nabbed one are loving it. Don't despair though, as we have our fantastic Max C Damien bags (as seen in Pick Of The Day yesterday), as well as handmade bags and purses by Maddie and D'n'J. We are also now out of stock of the RedRock Bleach-Out Tunic Vests, but their head honcho Kiran has got me all excited about their new Spring pieces, due in the next few months. Look out for them in Company magazine, as well!

In other and completely unrelated news, I finished reading Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (yes, I know, totally behind the crowd, but better late than never) and it was absolutely fantastic. Want to check out the Swedish film version now! So yes, if anyone is looking for a good read (even if you're not usually a crime thriller fan, which I'm not), then this will keep you occupied! Just a little recommendation from the Unorthodox team!

Also, congratulations to our model Tahnee (shown above) and her husband Matt (also one of our models) on their baby boy's first birthday this week (we're not orchestrating the breeding of our future models, I swear!). Happy birthday Zack!

Right, just make it through your Fridays and love your weekend! We'll be here if you need anything. :)

Pick Of The Day is one of our sale items, this Monsalina Chic Purple Layered Dress. This has been one of our most popular dresses, and is now only £25! Beautifully tailored, the silky plum coloured fabric is gorgeous with little layered pleats for a slight bodycon effect. This is a simple, smart piece that can be worn for work, or dressed up for a special occasion, whether you choose to go glam, or take advantage of the cut of it and go with a retro look. With a hidden zip at the back, it's the usual fantastic value and quality we expect from Monsalina Chic.

Walk On The Wild Side

Morning,

Bit of a plea first. If you've enjoyed your shopping experience with Unorthodox, please could you take time to fire off an e-mail to nominate us in the Inspiring Indies awards. All the details are on this page and it will only take a few minutes but we'd be eternally grateful. Just e-mail inspiringindies@drapersonline.com and tell them why you love Unorthodox.

Had the local paper, the Evening Telegraph, round my house yesterday to rummage through my wardrobe so look out for that in the Spree section next Monday.

Pick Of The Day is this gorgeous Death Kitty Leopard Hoody. Animal print is very big again this Autumn/Winter, and this has to be one of the cutest ways of wearing it. The main leopard print body of the hoody is velour with the distinctive Death Kitty logo on it. There are also leopard print ears on the hood, and thumb holes on the sleeves. Perfect for keeping warm when the weather is like this! We only have limited stock of these so get in there quick!

Also, for customers who can make it in to the shop, we'll be handing out reusable Shop Local bags (while stocks last). A great way of carrying your essentials whilst reducing waste and promoting local business.

Pick Of The Day today is in keeping with Halloween this weekend. Let these black cats cross your path with this beautiful handpainted square vase from Smashing Glass by Dorne Boddington.
