Pick A Plum

Morning,

Our beautiful Max C London 'Damien' handbags are now on the online shop. Studded with skulls, these are a great way to have a bit of goth in your glam. Check them out in our New In section. They're already going quick, so make sure you nab your favourite colour before someone else does!

Pick Of The Day is this gorgeous Monsalina Chic dress. We really love the MC range as it's all beautifully made with a great eye for tailoring, and great value for something of this quality. We're big fans of purple too, so this dress is perfect. Made of a slinky satin material, this has great lines, and a very flattering layered effect. Perfect for Xmas parties, New Year, or just looking sophisticated anywhere. We're swiftly running out of some sizes, so why not try it now?

Black Or White

Morning,

Getting all excited about new things coming in time for Christmas. Over the next few weeks we'll have new Monsalina Chic dresses, more Stargazer products on the online shop and in store, as well as a pick'n'mix gift box offer on Barry M make-up. More info as and when we launch these. We also have new original art pieces in by Rebecca Sturdgess that will be going up on the walls very soon. They're absolutely beautiful!

Pick Of The Day is this sexy little black and white mini dress from Monsalina Chic. We also have it in white with black detail. It has an elasticated back so it fits like it was made for you, and comes with detachable clear straps that can be used with a bra or hooked straight onto the dress. Fantastically made (as you expect from Monsalina Chic, who always have an eye for classic designs and detail and are great quality), we have these dresses in sizes 6 to 16, however stock is strictly limited so slip into yours quick to avoid disappointment!

E-Bow

Morning,

Just a reminder that we will be running a special offer for our Facebook followers once we reach 350 on there, so if you haven't already, head over to our Facebook page.

Our Special Evening cocktail, prom and evening dresses are now on the online shop. Check out the Special Evening section.

Pick Of The Day today is this gorgeous cream Max C London dress. The shape gives it a bit of a retro 60's/mod look, whilst the floral lace out later is very vintage. It's in our sale, and these are the last few so when they're gone they're gone! It's a beautiful dress for the party season, maybe with some leggings and a shrug, and great for showing off your tan in the summer. Fully lined, it's elasticated under the bust, and has the distinctive Max C bubble hemline.

They're predicting rain so quite glad the shop is quite far up the hill!

Especially For You

Morning,

Can't believe how quickly we sold out of the Barry M Instant Nail Effects, but then, it is very very cool! We'll try to get some more in for you at the first opportunity. In the meantime, why not check out their other Nail Paints?

Pick Of The Day is this gorgeous Special Evening dress to get you ready for the party season. These dresses look like they cost a fortune, and considering how well made and beautiful they are, you'd be forgiven for thinking so! We have a range of styles in the shop, which will be on the online shop soon, but in the meantime, we have this one for you. It comes with the matching shawl as well. We only have this in stock in a couple of sizes, however if you get in touch, we can order in the size you want. The elasticated panel at the back means it fits as if it was made especially for you. Pure glamour for a steal of a price!

Hubble Bubble

Morning,

So it's the day of the Sheep Street/Silver Street Circus Street Party in Wellingborough. Our Alice In Wonderland themed window display is up (it's not subtle!), which I know is slightly off the circus theme, but a quick poll of our customers revealed none of them really like clowns. Or mimes. Or animals being used in circuses. So we decided we'd avoid that minefield altogether! There's tons going on up and down the street and the sun is shining! Quite looking forward to it all kicking off later.

I've just popped up the road to Irvin's House Of Flavour (a tea and coffee shop up the street) and am now happily munching on chocolate covered coffee beans. Yum!

Pick Of The Day is this Max C Jersey Rosette Bubble Dress, which is in our sale. Made from beautifully soft grey/silver material, with contrasting black detailing around the edge of the rosette, it's an elegant and distinctive dress. It also had Max C's signature bubble hem. The RRP for this dress was £42, but it's now £25 in our sale! An absolute bargain!

Enjoy your Saturday, whatever you're up up

Something For The Weekend?

Morning,

Because of the roadworks digging up the pavement outside, and because sometimes I need some time to do the washing, we will be shut this Monday 9th August. I hope this doesn't inconvenience anyone.

For our Pick of the Day today, we're revisiting an old favourite. This Max C Jersey Rosette Bubble Dress in grey is beautifully soft. It has an applique rosette with contrasting black trim, and a bubble hem skirt. What makes it even more appealing is that it is currently for sale from Max C's website at £42, and we have it in for only £30. What's more, if you buy it before the close of business on Saturday and tell us the code 'Roadworks Treat' then you'll get a further £5 off making it £25! That's a saving of £17 on the RRP! Bargain!

Special Occasions

Afternoon,

Bit late blogging today but have been have an IT sort through this morning, trying to get the PC working properly. Going round to see Brian the photographer tonight to sort through the results of the photoshoots, so should have some lovely pics for you soon.

This is the new Max C dress that came in yesterday, so this is our pick of the day. It's cream, with a crochet-style floral sheer top layer, and a silky neckline with bow. It's perfect for any special occasions you have coming up this summer, or just for making yourself feel special. The bottom hemline is in the distinctive bubble skirt style that is becoming a bit of a Max C 'thing'. Bit of a mod dress, in my opinion, and definitely a little 60s.

Right, better do some work!

Summer Solstice

Morning,

Summer solstice today, and the sun is shining (as it should be!). I'm sneezing like mad with hayfever but we'll gloss over that!

Louise Berrill, whose art we have been displaying, has taken her Cityscapes that we had on the walls for an exhibition next weekend, so in the meantime she has lent us some lovely other pieces of her work. Very pretty and lots of blue, so perfect for a summer's day.

Also perfect for a summer's day is our pick of the day today. This maxi dress is one of the new Max C 'High Summer' collection we have in. It's got a gorgeous feather-print on it (feathers being very in this summer) and the colours are beautiful. With an elasticated bandeau-style top, the skirt flows elegantly to the floor, going from blue at the top to a deep red at the bottom. As always, stock is limited, so whether it's for festivals, nights out, days in the park, or holidays, pop in and have a look at this one. When it's gone, it's gone!

Hope everyone is having a good Monday.

Roll on the weekend

Morning,

This week seems to be flying by! If you want an extra helping hand getting ready for the weekend, remember, our special offer is still on. All together now, "Choose a free Barry M Nail Paint when you buy an Iska dress". I'd rather say it too often, than risk any of you not knowing about it!

Today's pick of the day is this Maddie 'Ladies Who Lunch' bag. It's a handmade little bag, small enough to be cute and convenient, big enough to fit in all your essentials for the day (and, obviously, your lunch). We have them in a variety of prints, and as they're handmade, each one is different. Maddie is one of our local labels, so you'd have a struggle tracking these down anywhere else. Support local artisans, support local independent shops, buy a bag! :)

You shall go to the ball

Afternoon,

Yes, blog post is a lot later today (as was our Facebooking and Tweeting), but I wanted to get our new Iska dresses out on display. We currently have in 3 new styles from them, and all three are very Sex And The City (especially the black and pink one. You'll know it when you see it!). I think I may have to try on a couple of them later! A big thank you to Carly for helping sort them all out! Also had Steve and Paul from The Liabilities rehearsing upstairs earlier. Sounded great!

So at last, the pick of the day. Iska (obviously). Pure 80s retro this one, with block colour, gold piping on the sleeves, butterfly print, and the belt. There's a lot of dresses with this shape coming out at the moment, and this is my favourite of all that I saw. Is it possible to be retro and fashion-forward at the same time? I also have Barry M nail paints that match the colours of the dress pretty closely, if you fancy being creative! I'll admit, the dress does take a bit of guts, but it's definitely one for the fashionistas.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the afternoon and I'll try not to be so late tomorrow!

Bag yourself a bargain!

Morning,

Oh, I'm loving the sunshine! Shame I'm indoors really, but to be honest, I love it in Unorthodox (although I may be getting restless by about 4pm!).

I've had this dress as pick of the day before but now the sun is shining I thought it was worth having it again. Especially since I've noticed that a lot of the big online retailers are charging £42 for it, and Unorthodox's price is only £35 (plus, come in store and you have no postage and packing charges, you can try it on, and you get it immediately!). It's by Max C, has been photographed on celebrities, and is very cute. With a drop waste, flattering gathering above the bow, and huge pockets (very in), it can be dressed up for evenings, or worn out in the sunshine as a casual day piece. Max C clothes only go up to a UK size 14, however given the loose fit of the dress, I've seen a few size 16 ladies try it on and look great, so well worth a look. If you're unsure of anything, just ask! It's what I'm here for!

TGIF

Morning,

Yay! Sunshine! I can have the door of the shop open without freezing! Although it does let in the noise from the roadworks, but I can drown that out with the music.

I've had quite a few enquiries in regards to bigger sizes. Currently, these seem quite readily available in the men's clothes and the t-shirts we stock, but not in some of the other lines. Currently, Max C only go up to a UK size 14 but some of the styles mean they may fit someone slightly larger, whilst the Death Kitty items tend to be marked in small, medium or large or s/m and m/l. The large size appears again to be about a 14, although this does depend on the style of the item. We have a changing room and people are encouraged to try anything on if they are unsure. You never know! As it is frequently reported that the average size for a woman in the UK is a 16, I am eager to cater for as many people as possible and have found labels that do bigger size ranges, and hope to have more of these in stock in the future (but as there is not unlimited space or money, this cannot be arranged instantly). So please bear with me, and I will try to provide our customers with what they want.

Tomorrow sees the launch of the Cityscapes artwork we have in from Louise Berrill, and I will write more about that then. For today, our pick of the day is this Max C navy blue dress. Blues are all over the place this summer, as part of the nautical look, so this dress with the white trim is perfect. It also reminds me of Alice In Wonderland so it ties in nicely with the recent Tim Burton adaptation, and would look great with one of the Temporary:Secretary 'Alice' necklaces.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your weekend. We're open tomorrow, then I'm popping down the road to The Horseshoe to see their new refurb. They're relaunching tonight, but someone has to be here looking bright eyed and bushy tailed at 9am so think I might miss that! So if you're in Wellingborough, well worth checking it out.

The weekend is upon us

Well, Saturday morning. I'll admit, I don't like getting up for them. But got Pete in the shop on and off today, keeping me company, and he's gone to get me a McDonalds breakfast so it's not all that bad, really! Think we've got him and SteveO flyering in town today as well (so if a small dark guy and a tall ginger guy try to thrust a flyer at you, please take it!), so it's a shame it's not a bit nicer out there but I think this is as close to daylight as we're going to get. I do sound a bit weather obsessed in this blog entries, but it really does make a difference on people's moods (and their shopping habits!) so it pays to be aware of it!

Anyway, off the topic of weather and on to clothes! Pick of the day today is this gorgeous Death Kitty paw dress. The little white bows and sixties-style buttons are very cute, the paw print is really different, but the best thing about it as far as I'm concerned is the shape. It has to be one of the most flattering dresses ever! Definitely worth trying it on if it takes your fancy, and you'll see what I mean.

Anyway, breakfast has arrived so that's my bit of plugging for the day!
