Short End Of The Wedge

Morning,

Just a reminder that 10% of all online sales of our Yumi clothing in May will be donated to Claire Friend's Race For Life sponsorship. Check out her story and/or donate here.

Best of luck to our model and artist Becca, who is going into hospital on Sunday. We'll be thinking of you!

Almost the weekend, any exciting plans?

Pick Of The Day today is one for the boys (or tomboys). These Spiral Direct Vintage Shorts, £20.00, are fantastic quality. They're black with a distressed vintage look (we also do a non-distressed plain version), and they're on sale! These are great for the warm weather!

Have a great Friday!

Flat Pack

Morning,

Hope you all had a good weekend. Thought we'd let you know our opening hours for the bank holidays coming up. We will be open as normal, and closed on the Mondays as usual, except for Good Friday (22nd) when we will be open 10am to 4.30pm, Tuesday 26th when we will be opening at midday until 5.30pm, and Royal Wedding day (29th) when we will be open 10am till 4pm. I apologise if any of this causes an inconvenience (and to be fair, I'm moving house that week, so I need to grab some spare hours here and there to do that!).

We were also mentioned in the Northants Evening Telegraph again the other day (yeah, yeah, just call me rentaquote). This time it was commenting on a flyering campaign run by another local town, Corby, trying to persuade Wellingborough's shoppers to go over there instead. Think the headline Corby tactics anger Kettering and Wellingborough in store wars might be a bit melodramatic but is probably infinitely more attention-grabbing than 'Traders slightly miffed'. :)

Pick Of The Day for today is a little bargain and a great way of support local artists. This Cat Flat by R.L. Sturdgess Postcard Set, £2.00 for a pack of 6, is taken from the Cat Flat comic book designed by local artist and Unorthodox model Rebecca. Drawn in an anime style, they are perfect for sending out your thank you notes for all those Easter eggs you're anticipating!

Enjoy the sun (or whatever weather you have where you are!).

Racy Lacy

Morning,

It's Saturday! Woop!

Well, that's our Audrey Hepburn umbrellas sold out. We may get some more in at some point, but as always, we try to only get things in limited numbers to keep them new, exciting and desirable, so it won't be straight away. I think them selling so quickly is a testament to our customers' fantastic taste and our lousy weather!

Best seller of the Yumi collection so far? The Larinda top. It's not on the online shop yet, but we'll get it up there as soon as possible.

If you're in the mood for something literary, check out my review of Edward Hogan's The Hunger Trace on my Hell Oh Kitty blog.

Continuing our current Yumi obsession, guess what Pick Of The Day is? :)

Pick Of The Day is this beautiful Yumi Quimella Lace Skirt. It's available in black, brown or beige. The underskirt has a beautiful satin feel, and it's overlaid with the gorgeous sheer cream lace top skirt. It has contrasting coloured elasticated waistband and lace detail on the hem. I especially love what our photographer Brian Chapman has done with these photos, and our model Rebecca looks fantastic!

Choose your Yumi Quimella Lace Skirt on our online shop.

All that's left for me to say is have a great weekend, and if you need us today to help you complete your Saturday night outfit, we'll be here! Otherwise, see you on Tuesday!

Ashes To Ashes

Morning,

Had a great weekend. The Unorthodox team were out in force for The Horseshoe's first Comedy Night on Sunday, which was fantastic. Oh, and it was my birthday. I don't feel any older, yet, though. Which is nice.

Audrey Hepburn umbrellas are selling fast (the weather is probably helping!) so if you want to stay dry in the most stylish way possible, make one yours today!

We had a great photo shoot on Saturday with the new Yumi pieces. Local artist Rebecca Sturdgess modelled for us (we have lots of her art in stock, so check that out), and she did a fantastic job. Our resident photographer Brian Chapman of Brian Chapman Photography was running the show, and it was great fun. Loved seeing the Yumi pieces being worn. Once the photos are ready, we'll have them up on our Facebook page, and you'll be able to see them on the Yumi item pages when they're on the online shop.

Pick Of The Day today is this Spiral Direct Phoenix Rising T-Shirt because we only have one left! It's 100% and features the fantastic prints Spiral are famous for. There's an awesome back print too, so you're getting your money's worth! We're gradually cutting down on our menswear, so grab a piece of history!

View and order the Spiral Direct Phoenix Rising T-Shirt on our online shop.

Have a great week!

Sundae Girl

Morning,

I usually try to think of a music-related pun for the blog title that relates to the content in some way. However, today's was just perfect as it was!

Today we're focusing on our artists. Whilst we are predominantly a boutique selling clothes, accessories and cosmetics, we like to support the arts and anyone who has been in our shop can see all the beautiful pieces adorning our walls. Some of these are available on the online shop, some are not as yet. The pieces we have available include small original pieces by Pippa Alice, canvases and smaller originals by Louise Berrill, originals and prints by Richard Stones, canvases, postcards and framed originals by Rebecca Sturdgess, canvases by Anita Hughes, framed prints by Daniel Cheney, photographic canvas prints and postcards by Clive Wagner, not to mentioned beautifully painted glassware from Dorne Boddington's Smashing Glass. With original canvases starting at £12 and going up to £450, there is something for every taste and budget. So don't forget, not only can we help you look like your amazing and unique self, we can help your home reflect that too.

Our Pick Of The Day is one of these gorgeous works of art. Let me introduce you to Sundae Girl by Pippa Alice. Pippa is our only artist currently who isn't based locally. Her pieces have a fantastic whimsical style that is very distinctive. They're all signed originals, created on handmade recycled cotton rag paper. Sundae Girl is approx 11cm x 15.5cm so she's small enough to fit anywhere! Great as a thoughtful gift for a loved one, or just a fantastic treat for yourself and your space.

View Sundae Girl by Pippa Alice on our online shop.

Hope you've all got a great weekend lined up. We're off to Retro-Beat at The Horseshoe down the road to check out The Francis Jetty and Transmission. We'll tell you all about it when we're back to work on Tuesday! In the meantime, have fun!

The special offer will apply online and in store, so we'll make sure you don't miss out!

Those of you who have started their Xmas shopping seem to be loving our Smashing Glass pieces. As each one is unique, make sure you get it before it's gone!

Rebecca Sturdgess' artwork is now up in the shop and we'll try to get it photographed an onto the online shop soon. Each piece is a signed original, in a variety of formats ranging from canvases to framed pieces, in many different styles and influences (loving the Japanese themed pieces). With prices starting at £12, they're perfect presents that will never be replicated.

Pick Of The Day today is this absolutely gorgeous Special Evening dress. We're running a special offer on all of our Special Evening dresses this festive season, meaning you can pick up any of them for only £55 each! This one is gorgeous, and also available in red. With an elasticated back and adjustable straps, this fits like it was made for you, and comes with the matching shawl (shown). Morning,

Getting all excited about new things coming in time for Christmas. Over the next few weeks we'll have new Monsalina Chic dresses, more Stargazer products on the online shop and in store, as well as a pick'n'mix gift box offer on Barry M make-up. More info as and when we launch these. We also have new original art pieces in by Rebecca Sturdgess that will be going up on the walls very soon. They're absolutely beautiful!

Pick Of The Day is this sexy little black and white mini dress from Monsalina Chic. We also have it in white with black detail. It has an elasticated back so it fits like it was made for you, and comes with detachable clear straps that can be used with a bra or hooked straight onto the dress. Fantastically made (as you expect from Monsalina Chic, who always have an eye for classic designs and detail and are great quality), we have these dresses in sizes 6 to 16, however stock is strictly limited so slip into yours quick to avoid disappointment!
