Twisted Firestarter

Morning,

Already been quite busy today! We've now sold out of the Max C Lace Bow vests and the Worn Free John Lennon New York City T-shirts (last one is off to Sweden this morning!). Hope everyone who got one of those is loving it!

Just a reminder that over the bank holiday we will be shut on Sunday and Monday as usual, but we're also taking Tuesday off too (we're off to Derbyshire for some R&R with the family... I anticipate lots of tea and cake and the odd glass of wine!). But first we're off out on the town tonight to celebrate a couple of birthdays, so happy birthday to Dan and Carly!

Pick Of The Day today is this D'n'J Twisted Bag in Turquoise Floral, £14.00. It's handmade by local artisan-types D'n'J and it's a one-off, so perfect if you're after something totally unique. Like Levi's famous twisted jeans, it's seams are twisted meaning it hangs really well and has a very distinctive look. Made from turquoise and floral panels, it's bright and great for summer (especially festivals!). This is only available on our online shop (or maybe if you come in the store and ask really really nicely) so grab your opportunity for this one!

Have a great weekend!

Where The Wild Roses Grow

Morning,

This week is flying by! Our Stargazer Semi-Permanent Hair Coloursare very popular this week, with Magenta and Rouge being the fastest selling! Also, the Yumi Kenna Swallow Maxi Dress is still selling really well in both pink and navy, so make sure you get yours! As with all of our clothes, we only stock things in limited numbers to keep them desirable and you looking unique, so once they're gone, they're gone.

Today's Pick Of The Day is this handmade D'n'J Make Up Roll in Red Rose, £15.00 and includes a free Barry M Kohl Pencil. This is perfect if you're travelling about this Summer, especially if you're heading to the festivals. It keeps all your make-up pencils, liners and brushes together and protected from the elements! Because after 3 days in mud, a girl needs to look her best!

Have a great day (and get out and vote, if you can, we're big on getting involved here!).

They're creepy and they're kooky...

Morning,

Well, we have our Stargazer hair colour offer going in store (not available online, this offer, sorry, but we will sort you out with something equally brilliant very soon!). This week only, get your hair colours for only £4.00 (reduced from £5.50)! It is while stocks last, and some colours have already sold out, but at this price it's a great chance to try something new! But if you're not feeling adventurous, don't worry, we'll be reordering all the sold out colours next week, so hang on in there. :)

Pick Of The Day today is this D'n'J Reversible Bag in Halloween Print/Black, £14.00. It may seem a little unseasonal, but it's perfect if you want to buck the floral trend this summer. Handmade, one side has a Halloween print featuring witches, ghosts, spiderwebs and pumpkins, or turn it inside out for a plain black bag. It's the perfect size for lunches, books, or just carrying your bits and bobs around, and light enough to be perfect for summer. So get in touch with your inner Wednesday Addams and make every day Halloween.

Have a good day!

Walking With The Ghost

Morning,

Just updated our information on our Facebook page so if you've not already had a look and clicked 'Like', check it out now! Best way of staying up to date with our news and exclusive special offers. Also, if you've bought something from us in the past, you can leave us a review. We always like to hear if people are happy with our service and products, and if we can improve in any way.

Fresh from its appearance in NGamer magazine, our Pick Of The Day is this Pacman box by D'n'J. It's a hand painted wooden box, that can be used for a multitude of things. Other designs are available, including tattoo-style designs, Paper Mario, and Invader Zim. To use a classic 'thank you' card phrase, it is both useful and decorative. Perfect for the gamer in your life.

Ruffle Feathers

Morning,

Got some exciting new Smashing Glass pieces coming in this afternoon so looking forward to seeing those! Also, our D'n'J boxes (exclusive to Unorthodox) were featured in the Christmas 2010 issue of NGamer (see below).

Anyway, on with our Pick Of The Day...

This gorgeous Iska Raka Skirt Dress was originally £35 but is now a mere £20 in our sale! Iska is a sister label to Yumi, who we will be stocking this Spring. This oh so pretty dress has a black lace top part, ties at the back, and has the beautiful pink ruffled skirt. It's about as pretty as it comes! And for £20 you can't really go wrong!

Heart Shaped Box

Morning,

First off, we'll be closing early today at 4.30pm. Sorry if this causes anyone any problems, and rest assured I'd rather be here than at the dentist, which is where I'm headed. Still, the online shop is always open so don't let that stop you!

We're awaiting the arrival of our Stargazer and Barry M orders, so will announce on our Facebook and Twitter accounts when those arrive. Lots of shiny things to get you through the festive season!

Our pick of the day is this Invader Zim wooden box by local crafty types D'n'J. Hand painted and hand finished, this wooden box is big enough to hold most of your valuables and features the characters from the Invader Zim cartoon. Limited edition, this is great as a gift or for indulging your inner kid. Full details on size are on the item page on the online shop using the link below.

Got some new pieces going up on the online shop today for you to look out for. We have some purses and make-up rolls, all hand-made by D'n'J, as well as the first of our gorgeous accessories by Irene Mosedale. It's the pink and blue beaded bracelets going up today so keep your eyes open for those!

UnorthoBox

Morning,

The joke in the title of today's blog is courtesy of Tony Carter. Cheers!

We got in some lovely new Special Evening dresses yesterday to get you ready for the party season. They're not on display yet, but hope to have them out and ready for your approval by the weekend. As many of you wanted something a bit brighter, we've gone for blues, lilacs, reds, purples... there should be something that takes your fancy. Also new in yesterday, D'n'J have made us another of their kickass hand-painted wooden boxes. This new one features an Invader Zim design (ok, I had to check Wikipedia for that cultural reference but still...). We also have a new reversable bag by them with a Halloween design, but then, for some of us, every day is Halloween so it's perfect for all year round.

In online shop news, the other D'n'J wooden boxes we have in are now on there in the D'n'J section and feature Space Invaders and Pacman among other designs, so perfect for the retro gamer in your life.

Obviously, I'm going to pick one of the D'n'J boxes as Pick Of The Day. This Pacman one is my favourite. Bright colours, kitsch design, and the perfect place to stash your cheat codes. It has been painted and waxed by hand, with a little metal clasp at the front. All measurements for it are on the item's page on our online shop so click the link below for more info.

Selling Out

Morning,

Got some lovely new bits in yesterday. We have some gorgeous hand painted and hand finished wooden boxes by D'n'J with PacMan and Space Invader designs among others. We also have some signed, framed, limited edition prints by local artist Daniel Cheney that I hope to have on the walls over the weekend. Finally, we now have a selection of postcards of Wellingborough and the surrounding area by renowned photographer Clive Wagner.

Our sale still rages on. There are some real bargains to be had. If you want any extra information on any product, be it about the sizing, how it fits, washing instructions, just ask! It's what I'm here for! One of the biggest bargains is some of the dresses we have in by Max C. Some are almost £20 lower than the RRP! Well worth having a browse! Most can be worn for winter too, as the styles are pretty classic and not prone to dating quickly, so just add a jacket, or put it away for next year, knowing you have a bargain!

Pick Of The Day today are these men's plain black shorts by Spiral Direct. These are fantastic quality, 100% cotton, and only £20 in our sale. We also have them in a vintage, distressed-look version as well, as well as the printed SD shorts. Stock and sizes are limited so get in there quick!

Click here for more information and to buy these Spiral Direct shorts from our online shop.

Right, off to look at the lovely new lines from Worn Free and decide what we want in next!

Friday With A Twist

Morning,

To celebrate the launch of our online shop, www.unorthodoxshop.com, we have some special internet-only offers running until the end of Sunday 19th September. They're while stocks last so get in quick! Get £10 off the Max C Skull Print Maxi dress making it £35, or get £5 off the Worn Free Muhammad Ali 'Float Like A Butterfly' t-shirt in white, making it £27. Both of those prices make them cheaper than buying them directly from the label's websites!

Had an impromptu visit to RedRock Fashion HQ yesterday and had a peek at some of the pieces appearing in their London show next week. All I can divulge is that high waist skirts with crop tees are a key look, as is velvety fabrics, a bit of shimmer and shine, and bleached out patterns (as I've said before, it's like tie-dying but with balls). It's all amazing, and hopefully we'll be able to bring you some of the gorgeous new pieces once they are done wowing the capital. If they've not become far too massive to return our calls by then! :)

Pick Of The Day today is this D'n'J Twisted bag. Handmade in Wellingborough, it's made from panels of different denim-look floral fabrics, and sewn on a twisted seam which gives it a distinctive look and makes it hang really nicely. Well made, each bag is different, and whilst lightweight it is big enough to fit in all your essentials! Only have one in this style in stock, although if you look at the D'n'J section of the site, you can see other Twisted bags in different colours and patterns, as well as some of their other designs. D'n'J is a small local label, producing handmade bags, purses, and artist and make-up rolls, as well as getting ready to launch their own range of hand painted wooden jewellery and trinket boxes (we've seen them, they're awesome, escpecially the Space Invaders one!). Click the link below to see this bag on our website and shop!

Almost the weekend, so have a good Friday everyone, and don't forget to check out those special offers.
